Summary: Broken on Arrival
Comment: I'm usually pretty skeptical about the negative reviews on Amazon, but sure enough, my stone arrived in two pieces, as predicted by the naysayers.

Summary: eventually cracks
Comment: I bought this as a gift for my husband last Christmas, and he loved it. However, it cracked within six months, so I'm now seeking a replacement, will not repurchase this brand.

Summary: Baking Stone Extremely Well Packed
Comment: Old Stone Oven 14-Inch by 16-Inch Baking Stone

I was hesitant to order this baking stone because of the reviews saying it arrived broken. These reviews were as recent as last spring - so I don't know if the packaging has been redesigned but mine came through fine.

It struck me as extremely well packed. It's in a heavy-duty corrugated cardboard box, held securely in place by corrugated cardboard braces. Then packed as other Amazon shipments are in a larger box, padded with crumpled brown paper. Shipped UPS.

Of course, though it's called a "stone" it's actually a ceramic tile, so it is breakable. But mine came through fine and I can't wait to use it.

Summary: Three years and no problems
Comment: I bought(2)of these in 2005 for ten dollars less each here at amazon. It was a good price then. Too bad it has gone up so much. Nevertheless, I believe they are great for pizza and bread. I have always left them in the oven and take them out to scrape them clean on occasion. I figure they are heat cleaned. I tried the unglazed tile (home depot) in a pan years ago but they did not create a crisp crust. They do not absorb moisture which is why they can be used outside in cold climates..not brutal, but cold. In addition, they are not not for eating off of. Maybe it does not matter but I would not assume they are safe. These stones from Old Stone are great and make a great pizza at 500 deg. and preheated for almost one hour.

Summary: Best Pizza Stone for the money
Comment: To anyone looking to make great home made pizza's, look no farther! As a advid Internet shopper, I shopped a gazillion sites and looked at all sizes and prices. If you are reading this review and have not purchased
yet..STOP READING and BUY THIS PIZZA STONE! I've done all the research, I
own this stone. It makes excellent pizza, put stone in oven, set oven for 500 degrees,once oven it at temp. turn down to 450 and put your pizza in.
Set timer for 8-10 mins. for thin crust. You will love it!!!

More Reviews Let's say your kitchen doesn't have a wood burning brick oven in it, yet you love the texture of the crust from a real pizzeria. Don't despair! This stone will produce an amazingly "genuine" crust right in your own oven.

Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens
Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean.
Choosing Appliance -> Taps
If you want a sink with large bowl dimensions to cope with big-pan washing-up, it is worth considering a tap with a pull-out or pull-down spray rinse. This gives you water anywhere you need it around the bowl area.

Kitchen tips -> Onions
  • When selecting, choose firm onions that have dry paper-like skins and that seem heavy for their size. Avoid onions that are soft or spotty and any that have begun to sprout.
  • When cutting onions and only half the onion will be used, use the top half and store the root end. The root end will stay fresh for a longer period of time.
  • Tear saving tips: (Experiment with these tips and see what works best for you!)
    • Slice under running water.
    • Peel the onion, cut in half and let soak in water for approximately 10 minutes before cutting.
    • Store in the refrigerator before cutting so the onion is cold.
    • Light one or two candles in the area you are cutting the onion.
    • Be sure to use a sharp knife.
    • Have a fan blowing the fumes away from you.
    • Try holding your breath while you are cutting the onion.
  • To remove the onion odor from your hands, rub a piece of lemon in salt and then squeeze the juice on your hands, rub the juice in, and then rinse it off.
