I had planned to give it to my kids for Christmas as it is such a great item to have, neat, clean, handy and works great...but you have to do it correctly. If you put the blade in backwards it will NOT work. Read the instructions for those that did NOT like it. Great item. Customer Rating: Summary: This is great Comment: I've only made meat salad spread with this so far, but it worked great. The blade is pretty sharp and while it is mostly plastic it is pretty nice. I'm looking foreward to grinding my own hamburger and making my own sausage, as well as meat, cheese, and egg salads and grinding fruit for jams and jellies and veggies for broth, especially onions. Comparing to my previous grinder, that was made from iron, was very heavy, and i suspect that i had some iron scrap in my meat after grinding, this grinder is absolutely non-comparable! it's light, small, and also has very smart way to hold to the surface. Comment: The Norpro Meat Grinder,Mincer,and Pasta Maker is a handy gadget, takes up very little space, sticks to my counter top or table surface with a simple twist of the suction locking knob. Sticks like glue but releases effortlessly. It's small and takes up very little room. However, since it is small, I have to be a little patient with it as it doesn't take a large amount of meat or pasta dough at one time, but then I didn't buy it to serve large crowds at a moment's notice. Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes. Choosing Appliance -> Ovens Most avid bakers prefer separate, even-heat double electric ovens. If that describes you - and you have the space - be sure one of the ovens is equipped with a broiler that provides at least 3,000 watts of cooking power. Also look for racks that pull all the way out and lock in place for safe, easy access to the oven.
