Customer Reviews of Kyocera Ceramic Fine Mill, Black Top
Customer Rating: Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5
Summary: Wonderful grinder for pepper
Comment: My old pepper grinder was giving me huge chunks of cracked pepper. After reading other reviews I thought I would make this my first ceramic grinder, and I'm very happy I did. The pepper comes out in a nice spray and at a good table grade medium grind. The top screws on securely and the glass container has a frosted finish that provides grip when grinding. A wonderful product. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Does NOT work for wet salt!
Comment: Very, very dissappointed with this mill. After about 100 turns we were able to get about a 1/4 teaspoon of salt. And there is no mechanism to force the salt to the grinder. Poorly designed. Very likey another product in which you get what you pay for...I'll probably try the Puegot Vendome wet mill instead. Don't waste your money on this.

Summary: Good for the kitchen
Comment: Our Good Grips spice mills have finally started to fall apart and they don't make them anymore so I've been on a quest to buy new salt and pepper mills for most of the year.

These are pretty easy to fill, though they're a bit small so that means a small mouth. The screw on top is an improvement over the snap on style of the old Good Grips (Why Oxo? Why?).

This is a terrific grinder for salt; literally a shower of salt per turn, which is great for the kitchen when cooking and only a bit much when used on the table. Pepper is a different story however. While this may be a "fine" mill, pepper is quite coarse, closer to cracked than ground. That works well for me while cooking (which is where I keep it now) but it's not very friendly on the table unless you're a real pepper lover.

I haven't used it with any other spices, though considering the way it works with pepper I wouldn't want to use it for cloves (cracked cloves in your pie anyone?) or other spices that really need to be finely ground.

Summary: Excellent mill - 5 Stars
Comment: I was very impressed with how finely the seeds I ground came out, and how easily the mill worked. I'd buy it again.

Summary: Excellent
Comment: Grinds any and all kinds of salt into a very fine grain... simply amazing to watch the before and after.

The only way you won't love this product is if you don't like grained salt.

More Reviews In this mill, the grinding mechanism is crafted from advanced ceramic, close in hardness to diamond, and certainly up to the task of grinding peppercorns. Consistent, durable and non-rusting, you'll achieve excellent results each and every time. Additionally the clever upright design keeps your counters clean from residual grounds.

Choosing Appliance -> Energy-Efficient Refrigerators
The EnergyGuide label on new refrigerators will tell you how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) a particular model uses in one year. The smaller the number, the less energy the refrigerator uses and the less it will cost you to operate. In addition to the EnergyGuide label, don't forget to look for the Energy Star label. A new refrigerator with an Energy Star label will save you between $35 and $70 a year compared to the models designed 15 years ago. This adds up to between $525 and $1,050 during the average 15-year life of the unit.
Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens
Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.

Kitchen tips -> Lemons
  • When selecting, choose lemons that are heavy for their size and have smooth skins.
  • Before squeezing juice from a fresh lemon, try one of these tips to produce more juice:
    • Allow the lemon to reach room temperature and then roll it on a hard countertop using the palm of your hand. Roll it back and forth until you feel the skin loosening.
    • To produce more juice from a lemon or other citrus fruit, place the fruit in a bowl of hot water before cutting and squeezing.
    • Place it in the microwave for 10 seconds before squeezing
