Comment: I know it seems a bit expensive, anything from Henckels is worth every last penny....they're really nice and solid feeling, look elegant, and last forever. The handles are also a high-point, in that they don't get hot at all, have a nice heat-proof grip on them, and look classy. I've had more than one occasion in which I accidentally left it on a hot burner (we have a flat top stove), but they're doing great, despite nearly a year of use and at least 100 trips through the dishwasher in potscrubber/sanitize/temp boost mode. Choosing Appliance -> Dishwashers Check the capacity. 'Standard' 60cm wide dishwashers can take 12, 14 or 16 place settings, whilst slimline 45cm models may cater for 7, 8 or 9 place settings. Compact dishwashers tend to be 45 cm wide and can be placed on the worktop or built in, depending on the model. They may take 4, 5 or 6 place settings. Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen. Useful info -> Tips If you plan to install a dishwasher, place it close to the sink. Where you choose to put it might depend on whether you're right- or left-handed and on the path dishes are likely to take when cleared from the table. Also consider the choreography of two people loading and unloading the machine |
