Customer Reviews of MIU #90049 Candy/Deep Fryer Thermometer
Customer Rating: Summary: An excellent tool Comment: This thermometer was right on target when tested with boiling water. It's a good, sturdy, invaluable cooking tool at a very reasonable price. The only thing I don't like about it is the amount of offset provided by a metal tab at the bottom, which is intended to keep the thermometer from resting directly against the side or bottom of a pot. While this is important when working with a deep container, it makes it almost impossible to use this thermometer when working with a smaller amount in a shallow container. Overall, though, this thermometer is an excellent value for the money. Customer Rating: Summary: Major design flaws! Comment: I make a lot of candy and needed an accurate themometer. Caramels are especially sensitive to temperature changes. I regret buying this thermometer for two reasons: 1) The base/bulb of the thermometer is at a height that it often isn't fully submerged in the pot. 2) Even worse, after my last batch of caramels and the hard candy lollipops were overcooked, I realized that the thermometer is not fixed securely against the number scales, It slides up and down, thereby rendering it quite inaccurate. That was what had happened and what I thought were "perfect" temperatures, were actually about 5-10 degrees higher than they should have been. Very frustrating when you are doing something time consuming (with costly ingredients). Unless someone can recommend a better candy thermometer, I guess I'll stick with using two (at the same time) of the store brand themometers. I DO NOT recommend this themometer. High price and seemingly sleek design do not equal quality. Customer Rating: Summary: DEEP FRYER THERMOMETER Comment: HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THERMOMETER, BUT IT IS DIFFICULT TO USE IN FRYER WITH A BASKET DUE TO ITS SIZE. Customer Rating: Summary: Use this all the time Comment: I tried to make fudge without a thermometer but it wouldn't set. I use this one all the time to make fudge and it hasn't failed me. It's easy to use, read and it goes right into the dishwasher. Customer Rating: Summary: fry hard Comment: does what its made for what more could ask for. It has an clip on the back so you can clip it to a pot and it wont fall in and well marked temp points starting at 100f 40c going to 400f 200c and has candy stages marked thread, hard crack, etc.it also marks deep fry at about 375 witch is a good all around fry temp. More Reviews NSF approved for restaurant or home use, this is a excellent thermometer for measuring the temperature of hot oil to ensure that it has reached the proper temperature before adding food. The thermometer is 13-inches long with a stainless steel frame, the perfect thermometer for candymaking. It features markings for different textures and hardness of candy. To clean, rinse with warm soapy water. Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Dryer When shopping for a new clothes dryer, look for one with a moisture sensor that automatically shuts off the machine when your clothes are dry. Not only will this save energy, it will save wear and tear on your clothes caused by over-drying. Keep in mind that gas dryers are less expensive to operate than electric dryers. The cost of drying a typical load of laundry in an electric dryer is 30 to 40 cents compared to 15 to 25 cents in a gas dryer. Choosing Appliance -> Hobs If you enjoy eastern cuisine, you can buy a speciality hob with a wok burner. Similarly if you are a BBQ fan, choose a BBQ grill. If you are left handed, go for front rather than right hand side controls as this eliminates the risk of reaching across the heat. If you cook for a large family, more than four rings may be useful, and if you have young children it may be worth considering paying a little extra for a hob guard or in the case of gas, choosing an automatic re-ignition or cut off device should the flame blow out. MIU #90049 Candy/Deep Fryer Thermometer Kitchen tips -> Cooking sweet corn Do not add salt to the water when cooking sweet corn because the salt will toughen the corn. Add a little sugar to the water to boost the flavor. |
