Customer Rating:  Summary: Warning -- what you see is not what you get Comment: First, I love the china so I am giving it top marks. It isn't as crisp as the Made in England version, but, alas, that isn't easy to find. And some of the printing is darker and some lighter (I rationalize that as antique). We have a set of English Blue Willow from Churchill, a nostalgic nod to my husband's childhood, but I fell in love with the Brook pattern in pink, so now I have it. However, the set I received did NOT have the rimmed soup bowls or the salad plates, as pictured and described, but has the cereal bowls and the bread and butter plates, instead. That would be fine and good except I ordered those to complete the set, some from a third party vendor, so now I have a lot of extra pieces either to return, if I can, or plan a big dessert party - ice cream and cookies for 16, plus the hassle of reordering the other pieces and the extra cost. I did find the salad plates at Ross, but still . . . I had contacted Amazon by phone (a disaster) and then by e-mail and was told, gee, we just have too much stuff to actually know what we are sending out if the manufacturer doesn't contact us first. So, I have my dishes, which are lovely and cozy and make me happy, but I think that Amazon is best for books and DVDs, and even then you have to be careful about the details. Or, they might listen to customers and contact the vendor and inquire, and make corrections. To be fair to Amazon, my order got here before the scheduled delivery date, in perfect condition, and it certainly was easier to find my pattern and the extras on Amazon.com than any other site. My husband helped me unpack the dishes. He smiled and was very happy to see me -so excited over my new dinnerware. My set was made in Columbia. Nothing was broken...the dinner plates are slightly lighter in color, but barely noticeable. We are both happy that the color is a rich deep pink. They look great in my formal dining room, which is painted burgundy. I have some antique china pieces that had belonged to my great great aunt, but not enough to fill my china cabinet. So I had bought the dinnerware to use as a filler and it looks stunning when the china cabinet lights are on. I plan on using them mainly on Sundays. I plan to buy another set for my mother, but in blue. My mother & I are china addicts. This set may have cured me. I just love it! I find it timeless & romantic. When the table is set...you are transported back in time. It gives you that warm feeling of being close to family, traditional Sunday dinners. There are different cottage scenes on each piece. Customer Rating:  Summary: Excellent Value Comment: I received this set last night, and was very excited to see that the color is almost identical to a set of dishes I have--a wedding gift to my parents in 1952! That set is English, but all that has survived are the dinner plates, 2 bowls, and the creamer--so I wanted something similar. My set of Churchill "The Brook" is made in Colombia, and although the bowls have one minor flaw that repeats on 6 of the 8, the set is in very good shape. The pattern is well printed, the plates in particular are very nice. The bowls are nice too. The salad/dessert plates are VERY small! But I don't anticipate ever using them anyway! The teacups and saucers are cute and the cups are well balanced. The plater and serving bowl are very nice. For the money, I think this is an excellent value! As others have said, it was so well backed it could have survived an earthquake. I'm back now to order mugs! Choosing Appliance -> Sinks Consider which accessories might be beneficial. Many models can be supplied with a draining basket, chopping board and strainer bowls. A drainer extension can be useful for sinks without a drainer where worktop space is limited in a small kitchen. Choosing Appliance -> Taps If you want a sink with large bowl dimensions to cope with big-pan washing-up, it is worth considering a tap with a pull-out or pull-down spray rinse. Useful info -> Fridge / Freezers No new fridge or fridge/freezer should contain CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) or HFCs (hydroflourocarbons), which have been linked to the "Greenhouse Effect". However your old fridge may contain them, so please dispose of it thoughtfully. Your local authority should be able to give you some advice and guidelines. |
