Summary: All you need for small kitchen
Comment: We love our ScanPan Cookware collection but cannot take all the pots and pans on our sailboat. With limited galley space and small cooktop we have to think about what works best. This set has all the cookware needed for a small kitchen, or small household. The ideal size non-stick skillet as well as a decent size stew pot or chowder vessel. The other great benefit for sailors, campers, RV folk and small living spaces is that cleanup is so easy. There are no dishwashers in our galley, and only one small sink, with limited water supply. So with these pans you simply rinse after use and then use a paper towel or dishcloth to wipe clean after use. No scrubbing, no scouring pads, no muss or fuss.
We read the reviews and information that led to Green Tek designation in the European Union, and that convinced us that this cookware is ecologically sound and safe to use in confined spaces.

Summary: ScanPans made from PTFE
Comment: The ScanPans are made from PTFE so they are hazardous to your health. These are not recommended because PTFE is known to be carcinogenic. Don't be fooled by ScanPans attempt to hide the fact that their products are made from PTFE which is known as Teflon.

Summary: It did not last very long
Comment: We got a large sauce pan, 1 small and 1 medium size fry pans.

I was very excited the first time we got our Scanpans. I read about the new technology surrounding this product that supposedly to be non-stick for many years. Now we only have the big sauce pan left. We have to throw away the 2 fry pans.
They lasted a couple of years before it started to break (It starts to have some tiny holes on the surface which then exposed the metal base. We got worried that pieces of those material gets to our food that we decided it's time to get rid of it). The non-stick properties starts to wear off before it lasted a year.

Pros:
-heavy and thick to distribute heat evenly
-Handles and glass covers are oven resistant so you can actually use it to cook in the oven
-Well made, great construction. Durable.
-(If you order a cover) We love the glass cover. It is see through to see your food without lifting it. Heavy that it does not easily rocks on top of the pan. We actually use it with our other pans.

Cons:
-Not as non-stick as teflon. And non-stick properties continue to deteriorates as you use it.
-For the price, it should last much longer.
-It is not good for induction cooking.

Comment: I have both of these items for a few years and don't use them anymore. The skillet is not non-stick anymore and the dutch oven is flaking. So for a price of the set and a couple of years of use I don't think it's a good deal.

If you want a sink with large bowl dimensions to cope with big-pan washing-up, it is worth considering a tap with a pull-out or pull-down spray rinse. This gives you water anywhere you need it around the bowl area.

If you enjoy eastern cuisine, you can buy a speciality hob with a wok burner. Similarly if you are a BBQ fan, choose a BBQ grill. If you are left handed, go for front rather than right hand side controls as this eliminates the risk of reaching across the heat. If you cook for a large family, more than four rings may be useful, and if you have young children it may be worth considering paying a little extra for a hob guard or in the case of gas, choosing an automatic re-ignition or cut off device should the flame blow out.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Heat
Rather than cause accidental heat-damage, prevent such damage in the first place:
  • Always use a heat protection pad or trivet (with rubber feet) for hot cookware, or leave cookware to cool on the hob first. Never put hot pans, particularly cast iron. Such heat can damage any surface!
  • If you must put a hot pan on the base of a sink use a protective sink mat, sponge, or cloth beneath. It is best to leave the utensil to cool slightly first, or put a few inches of cool water in the sink before the pan.
  • Avoid pouring boiling liquids directly into sinks without turning on the cold tap as well.
