Customer Reviews of Sabatier ProSteel 14-Piece Knife Set with Wood Block

Summary: Not the Real Deal
Comment: I registered for this set 3 years ago thinking that it would last me forever. Now I sit down to see about contacting the Sabatier company regarding my set because they have begun to rust. And what I realize is that this set is not a true Sabatier knife set at all. You may view [...] to see what the real set looks like. Now I have no clue who to contact to see about getting this set replaced with the said Limited Lifetime Warranty. Please research before buying.

Summary: Don't go cheap on knives...
Comment: I also made the mistake of putting these knives on my bridal registry. I was grateful for the gift, but I wish I would have known more about purchasing a good set of knives that will last a lifetime. I've had the knives for two years and I am ready to throw the whole set away. Even after sharpening they are so dull it's no wonder we don't get cut more often (it has happened sometimes to me). They rusted very early on and the shears I threw away months ago because the broke apart. I agree with the other reviewer, buy/register for the more expensive knives (after reading the reviews of course), it will save you in cooking frustration down the road.

Customer Rating: Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5
Summary: Crappy imitation
Comment: I got these as a gift, but before you call me ungrateful I'll go ahead and admit that it is of my own doing. I put these knives on my bridal registry, because I recognized the Sabatier logo and I (mistakenly) thought that I was getting great knives for a low-low price. Not at all. Please do not mistake these knives for the french-made ones, like I did. These are cheap, "made-in-china" crappy things. As soon as I took them out of the box, I could see and feel the crappy craftmanship. They feel unnaturally light in my hands. The blade and the handle are attached by cheap plastic, and it feel like it might break off if I press too hard.

Even besides the quality of the knives themselves, the plastic logo on the knives and the cutlery block are cheaply glued on!

I feel so bad, because my mother in law bought them for us and she's not well off at all so it was a big sacrifice for her. I can't even complain to my husband about them, b/c he'll think I'm badmouthing his mom. Like I said, I shouldn't have put these on my registry. If I could return them without offending, I would, but as you can see that is not an option. I'll just have to wait until they are worn down beyond repair. That shouldn't take long, probably around Christmas.

Summary: Good starter set
Comment: I bought this set a year ago from Amazon. As another reviewer said they dull very easily and I got rust spots on them within 2 months. (I didn't dry them like I should have after each use) I got tired of sharpening them after every use. Since then I have purchase a more expensive knife and I use it exclusively. I may give away my Sabatiers or throw them away since they are just taking space.

I like the Wood Block. Looks nice on the counter. The scissors I use all the time.

IF you need a start set for cheap this is it but I suggest you spend a little money on 3 good knives. I learned the hard way even though I have heard this from so many people.

Summary: Passable, but nothing special.
Comment: These were a good solution when I didn't have much money and needed new knives. They function, but they do dull easily and pick up rust spots pretty easily as well.

If you need a set of really affordable knives, they aren't bad. Otherwise, I recommend saving your money for something better like Wusthof.

Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens
Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean.
Choosing Appliance -> Baking sheete
Not too much romance here, but essential for any functional kitchen. Buy the heaviest pans possible. Also, you should consider buying a non-stick silicon sheet: they make baking very easy!

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maximize the efficiency of appliances
You can also maximize the efficiency of appliances you already own through regular maintenance and tune-ups and system upgrades. Examples of some things that you can do are:
  • Check air filters in heating and cooling systems monthly during the seasons they are in use and clean and replace them as necessary.
  • Clean air vents, baseboards, and radiators regularly and keep them unrestricted by furniture, carpets, or drapes.
  • Release trapped air from hot water radiators once or twice a season by opening the valve until nothing but water comes out.
  • Follow prescribed maintenance (e.g., maintaining certain water levels in steam heat systems).
  • Install an insulating jacket on your hot water heater, insulate hot water pipes, and lower the water heater temperature.
  • Clean refrigerator coils yearly and maintain internal temperatures between 36 degrees F (2.2 degrees C) and 38 degrees F (33 degrees C) for the refrigerator compartment and between 0 degrees F (17.8 degrees C) and 5 degrees F (15.0 degrees C) for the freezer compartment.
  • Move the refrigerator if it is currently located near the stove or dishwasher.
  • Regularly defrost refrigerators that do not have a completely automatic defrost capability to eliminate ice build-up on interior coils.
  • Clean dryer filters after each use or as necessary.
