Customer Reviews of Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Enamel-on-Cast-Iron Pot, Espresso
Customer Rating: Summary: That HEAVY Pot Comment: This is a marvelous pot for cooking, but I would not have purchased it if I'd seen it in the store and picked it up. It is VERY heavy, and I've learned to protect my wrists by always picking it up with both hands. If I need to clean out the bottom of the pot with a spatula, I have someone else help me hold it simultaneously. If I didn't need to clean it, then I'd never take it off the stove top. It's a challenge, but I love it when it's on the stove with my food cooking nicely inside. Customer Rating: Summary: Wish I would have researched more... Comment: I bought my Batali pot exactly one year ago from Amazon through a 3rd party merchant. It was my first enameled pot and I did do some research as I was stunned at the price difference between this item and the "better" lines but I only remember seeing very favorable reviews. Cut to a year later--I have babied that pot like no other and it is chipped in 3 places (and discolored without any abuse of cooking temp or contents). Of course, I have no box or anything or I would try to claim that life time warranty. Will definitely not buy anything else with the Batali name (other than cookbooks) as I have had quality issues with other items purchased elsewhere. Pay more for the quality. Customer Rating: Summary: Save your money for Le Creuset Comment: I bought one, used it once, and some of the enamel chipped off in the dishwasher. I returned it, and the second one was chipped near the handle with a big crack in the enamel as well. They look good but obviously are made on the cheap. My Le Creuset dutch oven is 20 years old and has never chipped--inside or out. Customer Rating: Summary: Chiped and Stained Comment: As much as I love cooking in this pot and just looking at it because it is really beautiful, the first time I used it the handle chipped even though it was handled carefully. The second time I used it, I made a lentil soup and the bottom of the pot discolored. It did not burn and I used a low flame but it still discolored. I have used Le Creuset Dutch ovens for years with absolutely no problem. I don't think I will purchase any more Mario Batalia Dutch ovens since they seem to be inferior. I am very disappointed because it is really a beautiful looking pot, especially in the Chianti color. Emileen Hanna Customer Rating: Summary: nekekark Comment: This dutch oven was purchased as a gift. It was highly successful. Both gift-giver and recipient were pleased. Braised shortribs were prepared shortly thereafter, adding further pleasure. The product came as described with no imperfections. Packaging was quite adequate. More Reviews Through his restaurants, cookbooks, products and television shows, Mario Batali breathes the spirit of the Old World into modern day America and shows us how to revel in the inherent joys of daily life.A multi-purpose pot is a must in an home chef's kitchen, especially this wonderful 6-qt. Italian Essentials Pot by Mario Batali. Shown here in Espresso, this pot is constructed from durable enameled cast iron with cast stainless lid knobs. Its size is large enough to accommodate everything from pastas and seafood soups to roasts and even small poultry! The durable porcelain enamel finish on the interior and exterior makes this pot extrememly easy and convenient to clean. Self-basting spikes are featured on the interior of the lid, which ensures constant natural basting to secure delicious taste and flavor in the food! Excellent heat retention allows this pot to go straight from oven to tabletop and this is also safe for gas, electric and ceramic-top ranges. Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers A large number of freezers have eliminated defrosting by continually circulating the air inside the freezer compartment, thus avoiding frost build-up -- a feature well worth paying a little extra for. Choosing Appliance -> Spatulas Buy a sturdy stainless spatula for general uses and a Teflon spatula for your non-stick pan. In addition, buy a silicon baking spatula for scraping bowls. Silicon is an amazing substance which is heat resistant up to 550 degrees. Mario Batali 6-Quart Italian Essentials Enamel-on-Cast-Iron Pot, Espresso Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Stainless Steel Maintenance Wipe away any acid spills such as from vinegar or grapefruit straight away. Never clean the bowl or draining board with an abrasive cleaner. Instead use liquid detergent in warm water and wipe with a soft cloth to remove water drop marks. Care for stainless steel appliance fascias and cabinet fronts in the same way. If choosing stainless steel cabinets, a 'brushed' surface is less likely to show grease from finger marks. |
