It's easy to clean, fits right in my hand - and is about a third of the price of the sets sold locally. It also arrived in great condition, thanks to good packing. Five stars! The bia unit is much lighter than the marble unit. pestling is very similiar. My first impression is that the diameter of the working end of the mortar does not seem to be quite big enough to make a perfectt fit for the pestle. Also, the cermics seem a bit flimsy for the workouts I am likely to give it. I will update the review as I have used the product and let you know what my final opinion is. I can not, for now, avoid givining it at least four stars. More Reviews A mortar and pestle crush and grind herbs, nuts, and spices in a very satisfying, down-to-earth way. Both pieces are made of heavy, durable porcelain that is vitrified and nonporous so as not to absorb odors, stain, or crack. The smooth white glaze covers all but the lower interior of the bowl and the lower third of the pestle, where a textured surface takes over and aids in the grinding process. Contoured for a sure grip, the bowl holds approximately one cup, measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter, and features a pouring lip. The mortar and pestle are dishwasher-safe, and the mortar may be used in the microwave, oven, and freezer if necessary. --Ann Bieri 
Choosing Appliance -> Spoons Buy stainless spoons (both slotted and non-slotted) which are solid and won't bend no matter how tough the job. Also, buy several high quality wooden spoons for stirring delicate dishes like risotto (the sharp edge of a metal spoon would cut or bruise the rice). Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. Useful info -> Kitchen Tips The optimum location for the cook top is along an exterior wall, rather than on an island or peninsula. With a stove on an outside wall, it's easy to install an effective hood and ventilation system, essential to expel grease, smoke and combustion gases. The stove or cook top needs a 21- to 30-inch overhead clearance so cooks can readily see and access rear burners and the ventilation system can do its work efficiently. |
