Summary: You Won't Go Wrong With This Pot
Comment: I have owned and used this pot for over 10 years. It looks and cooks as good as it did when I first got it. I use this mainly to make a good rump roast, but it would work fabulous with any slow cooked meal. One thing you want to be careful with on this pot is that it conducts heat better than the other pots and pans you probably use. For instance, I use Calphalon for my sauce pans or frying pans. For those, I would set my heat on Medium to brown meat - but with this pot, because it conducts the heat soooo well, I have to turn it lower than that. Medium would scorch the meat. Once your meat is braised and you put it in the oven with the lid on, you'll notice how the lid fits nice and tight on this pot and makes a seal. It does become its' own oven inside your oven and let me tell ya, it's pure magic. I have an old, old roast recipe that makes the best roast you've ever tasted -- but I had to have a good pot to make it in. This pot does it. I've since ordered this same pot for my children who have moved out and I just found out my mother ordered it for herself.

Summary: Can't call this kettle black
Comment: Tramontina Sterling II Dutch Oven 7-qt.

I bought this dutch oven because America's Test Kitchen rated it as the best Dutch Oven for price and quality. I wanted to use it stove top and in the oven for braising. An unexpected great feature is that the handle on both the lid and pot stay cool enough to touch when stove top cooking. The lid fit is so precise that as pot cools it forms a vacuum seal which is good for cooking rice, etc.. I have yet to see any uneven cooking or burning on the bottom of the pot. Unlike my beloved black iron dutch oven I can soak it in water or put in dishwasher. It is a great size for large pot roasts and pinto beans (frijoles). I highly recommend it for so many reasons not the least of which is the price. I know it won't disappoint you.

Choosing Appliance -> Energy-Efficient Refrigerators
The EnergyGuide label on new refrigerators will tell you how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) a particular model uses in one year. The smaller the number, the less energy the refrigerator uses and the less it will cost you to operate. In addition to the EnergyGuide label, don't forget to look for the Energy Star label. A new refrigerator with an Energy Star label will save you between $35 and $70 a year compared to the models designed 15 years ago. This adds up to between $525 and $1,050 during the average 15-year life of the unit.
Choosing Appliance -> Non-stick Pans
We recommend having at least 1 high quality non-stick saute pan. It makes cooking eggs and delicate items like fish a breeze. It also cuts down on the amount of fat necessary to effectively saute. The best place to buy such pans is from a restaurant supplier.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Hob and grill cooking
Modern appliances reach higher temperatures quicker - and often hold heat longer. To avoid worktop damage, follow both the appliance manufacturers instructions and these rules:
  • Always use the correct size of pan for the burner, placed centrally. An overhanging pan can scorch surrounding surfaces. Don't use two burners as one (e.g. for a large griddle) - it has the same effect.
  • To reduce heat, turn the burner down instead of pulling the utensil partially off the heat source.
