Customer Reviews of MIU Stainless 10-Quart Steamer and Pasta Cooker with Glass Lid
Customer Rating: Summary: Good heat distribution Comment: I bought this pot specifically for making chicken stock, and it did the job perfectly. The contents heated up quickly and evenly on my glass top stove. I was able to bring a full pot to a boil within a few minutes. With my old 4 quart RevereWare pot, it would take 15-20 minutes to bring water to a boil. This MIU pot obviously has good heat retention and distribution. The bottom is thick and heavy and the entire pot has a good solid feel to it. The lid fits properly, and there were no problems with sputtering or dripping from the lid. The glass is a nice bonus. You can check on your food without having to the lift the lid and lose heat. I have not used the steamer basket or pasta insert. Both fit well, though. The pasta cooker, when inserted, sits about 1 inch from the bottom of the pot, but I cannot comment on its performance. The steamer basket has a handle for lifting that's hard to see in the photo. It's unlikely that I'll use the pasta cooker or steamer basket any time soon, but if I do, I'll update this review. More Reviews The 10-qt. stainless steel pasta cooker has a 0.8mm stainless steel body gauge, glass lid, and a straight shape cut edge. The inside has a fine brush finish and the outside a mirror finish. Choosing Appliance -> Servicing Your Appliance Buying this "service deal" can be expensive but if you feel happier knowing that you are protected from breakdown for a few years, shop around insurance brokers to see how prices compare. Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking.
