Customer Rating:  Summary: excellent product Comment: I bought this for my pressure cooker and it works so well when I'm steaming vegetables. The vegetables don't get all mushy from them sitting in water boiling. I'm sure it works fine without the pressure cooker. I just haven't tried it yet. The vegetables cook faster with the pressure cooker. 3 minutes instead of 15. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Steamer Comment: As far as expandable steamers go, this one is the best, as far as I'm concerned. The 3 folding legs are rounded, so you can use this steamer in a non-stick coated pot, without worrying about scratching it. The center post handle screws off, if it gets in the way when steaming certain foods, like fish. I also like how you can put a fork through the top portion of the handle (as the instructions suggest), in order to lift it out of a pot, without burning any fingers in the process. Although it's a little bit more work cleaning it, as opposed to a silicone steamer (that doesn't expand), I usually use it for vegetables, and use a silicone steamer for fish (easier to clean). If you're really into steaming your foods, get this one and a silicone. Customer Rating:  Summary: Excellent steamer Comment: This is a well made product and a good idea ! The popup handle snugs down with a push so you can put a lid on the pot, then releases back up at a touch so you can lift the steamer without getting your fingers burnt. The legs are solid, not the flimsy folding type. The basket is extra large, which means it can steam a whole lot in even big 8-qt stew pots, but it doesn't fit in a small 2-qt pot. Useful info -> Is stainless steel really stainless? Choose a good quality sink to avoid problems later. Buy cheap and you will discover that stainless steel can stain and even rust! Mild acids such as vinegar will promote rust in stainless steel where the nickel content is low. Stronger acids such as those used by photo processors will have a detrimental effect on all stainless steels. |
