Customer Reviews of Old Dutch 48-Ounce Cast-Iron Mythology Teapot, Red

Summary: Cast Iron at a bargain price
Comment: The tea pot arrived as promised and holds a good amount of tea which was important as so many of the cast iron pots are very small. The cost was very reasonable compared to many of the specialty tea shops and I was able to find matching cups and saucers elsewhere to put together a lovely set at less than half what I would have spent.

Summary: Nice teapot, bad packing
Comment: This teapot is very nice. The shipper does a poor job in packing a heavy weight item. The exterior box was undamaged. The interior box holding the teapot was broken in two places by the teapot when it was subject to normal shipping forces. The teapot was in good shape with the exception of scrapes exposing bare metal from shipping. The problem is two fold one not enough packing to keep the interior box from sliding around in the exterior box; two the scrapes could have been prevented by bubble rap around the teapot.

I just touched up the teapot with paint and let the vendor know the above, I did not ask for exchange.

Bottom line, if you purchase anything heavy from this shipper expect it to come damaged in minor ways. Only a real problem if you are sending it as a gift.

Summary: Poor paint quality on the outside of pot
Comment: I bought 3 Old Dutch cast iron teapots for Christams gifts. Nice teapots but the paint quality on the outside of the teapot is a definite negative. My son said that the red color rubbed off on his dishcloth. Concerned that this is happening on a drinking/serving item. Also concerned that the enamel coating on the inside may not be up to quality standards for health safety.

Summary: Best size best price
Comment: I bought this teapot for my mother. Little does she know I didn't pay over $100 like in the stores. And this teapot holds the most tea. 48 oz is hard to find. Plus with each use your tea tastes better and better, and you never have to wash it. I want one for myself now.

Summary: Tea pot not kettle.
Comment: Bought this teapot for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. The teapot holds heat well, it's pretty and makes a great cup of tea. The only drawback if you want to call it that is you don't use the teapot to boil water. If the teapot boils water it is actually a tea kettle. With a teapot the water is boiled somewhere else and then poured over the tea leaves in a basket in the teapot and steep the tea for 3 to 5 minutes. You then remove the tea leaves and basket and enjoy your tea. All news to me as I thought you boiled the water in the teapot. Darn thing is cast iron and weighs a ton so I thought you could boil water in it - Wrong. Fortunately, she still liked the teapot so it wasn't a deal breaker.

More Reviews This graceful Japanese-style vessel for brewing and serving tea has a 48 oz. Capacity. Made of specially purified cast iron, it is symbolic of strength and unity. A coating of black enamel is applied to the inner surfaces to help prevent the development of rust. A stainless steel infusing basket is supplied for ease of preparation.

Choosing Appliance -> Strainers
We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years.
Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer
When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. With a front loader, you'll also save more on clothes drying, because they remove more water from your clothes during the spin cycle. Look for the Energy Star label.

Useful info -> Built-in Ovens
Built-under ovens may be single or double cavity and also need a separate hob. Double cavity ovens are essential if you want to cook one dish and grill another at the same time.
