Customer Reviews of KitchenAid Gourmet Distinctions Stainless-Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set
Customer Rating: Summary: Great set to grow with Comment: My husband and I received this cookware set as a wedding present. We had seen it was Consumer Report's "Best Buy," and put it on our registry. We must have been the only newlyweds to register for stainless steel cookware--the registry lady thought we were crazy for not wanting nonstick! I do NOT regret choosing this set. As I start cooking more challenging things, I really appreciate the delicious fond stainless cookware produces. And if you deglaze the pan as a part of your dish, the sauce does the cleaning up for you! I especially like the stock pot--it fits a whole chicken for poaching and stock with no problems. Every pan cooks evenly with no hot spots and responds normally to heat (i.e. it doesn't heat up too fast or too slow) I wish the set came with a 12" skillet--the 10" really has only 9" of space at the bottom and you can't really fit more than two full size pork chops in it. The teeny pot is cute, but somewhat useless if you don't have teeny burners on an electric stove--the kitchen gets pretty hot making a hard-boiled egg with that much "extra" exposed burner! As for cleaning, I like the exposed copper to shine a little, so I use Barkeeper's Friend on the bottom every once in a while to spritz it up. My husband doesn't like the way the lids catch water in the undersides of the edge, where the glass meets the metal edge that fits the pot. You can stick a bit of paper towel in there and absorb it pretty easily, but it smears a little when it's starchy rice water. Great set of quality cookware for someone who cooks frequently. Customer Rating: Summary: Leaky pots beware Comment: The pots are fine as long as you don't fill them to the rivets. Some of the pots leak at the rivets. So far two have started leaking. I have had the pots for 2 months. I will investigating the warranty process after the holidays. Pretty disappointing! Customer Rating: Summary: Kitchenaid cookware Comment: I've only used this twice and I got this request to write a review. It worked great both times. After I use it awhile, I will update this. Customer Rating: Summary: The Best Kitchen Purchase Comment: I've gone through 3 different sets of cookware...expensive non-stick, heavy aluminum, and even those nasty glass Vision's cookware from way back...and this set of Kitchen Aid Gourmet Distinctions is the winner hands down! They are beautiful hanging in my pot rack, but they really shine on the stove top. I have been impressed at how well they cook, and I have not had any trouble with food sticking. A good stir and scrape occasionally makes sure food is released before sticking becomes an issue. Of course, using a little cooking spray helps, too. They clean up exceptionally well, especially if you wipe them out and rinse them soon after cooking. As with any cookware, you don't want to rinse them while they are still hot using cold water...can cause warping, etc., but if you let them cool for a minute and use HOT water and a plastic scrubbing brush, clean up is a breeze. It is wonderful to be able to stick them in the dishwasher, too. The small exposed copper ring near the base does become discolored with use, but that is to be expected and can easily be shined up using vinegar & baking soda, or any copper polish. I personally don't mind the "well used" look! Though I have a gas range, these pans can be used on electric as well as induction cooktops. Highly recommended as the best purchase I've made for my kitchen since my Kitchen Aid stand mixer 20+ years ago!! Customer Rating: Summary: They Cook As Well As They Look! Comment: We've had our set since March 2008 and we don't miss the nonstick they replaced one bit. These pots and pans are for the most part substantial without being unwieldy. We wish the 6qt pot were a 4 or 4.5qt instead, because when it's full of boiling water, it can be a handful. We've done all sorts of meals with these and just like with most cooking messes, if you're a tidy cook and wipe things out as soon as you're done with them, final cleanup is a breeze.
