Customer Reviews of Kenwood KM410 Chef Classic 5-Quart Stand Mixer

Summary: Better than Kitchenaid!
Comment: I love this mixer! It is SO much better than a Kitchenaid. The motor is much more powerful and more versatile because of its many speeds and pulse mechanism. It's a great choice! After many years, it still works like it was brand new and I have never had a problem with it once.

Summary: Impossible to service, especially under new owner DeLonghi.
Comment: I LOVED my Kenwood mixer, but after 5 years of very light use it appeared to simply "die" in the middle of a batch of cookies. The reset button didn't restore anything. When I inquired with a local servicer, I was told that NO PARTS can be obtained in the states, and that this difficulty worsened after DeLonghi's purchase of the manufacturer. I had terrible difficulty myself trying to get through to DeLonghi for servicing information. Fortunately, wiggling a loose wire resurrected the machine and made my husband a hero... until the mixer truly dies. This is a WONDERFUL machine, but FAR, FAR too expensive to market without the prospect of feasible servicing... or without a much longer warranty period! I will greatly hesitate to replace it with another.

Summary: got it from more than 30 years
Comment: It is own by my family and it still is working great. And it has a huge amount of accessory and a strong motor which you can use to do what ever you want

Summary: Great Mixer but Bosch mixer is better
Comment: The Kenwood mixer does a great job but if it breaks down don't count on there being any customer service for this product(because it is non-existant). Bosch does an excellent job mixing, kneading, and whipping and they last forever without any problems.

Summary: The best piece of equipment in the kitchen.
Comment: My mother bought a chef back in the 1960's and it is still doing duty in her kitchen. When I got married it had to be on the list of wedding gifts. Although this is an expensive mixer, the price is worth it. These mixers do not break. They are strong and reliable.

I use mine for mixing bread, pastry, cakes, cookies, whisking sponges, beating eggs and cream, making frosting. And that is just the main bowl. The liquidizer/Blender is in constant use, you cant get a better way to make breadcrumbs or to puree vegetables and soup. When our kids were small we got great use out of the babyfood blender and storage jars.

The Kenwood is always my first choice for any baking job, and if you like cakes, you have to have the Kenwood Chef. The basic animal is good enough to sell it. The add ons are what make it versatile and exciting. If you want to grind meat, make pasta, grind your coffee, make coleslaw, whatever, there is an attachment availble which hooks onto this little powerful engine. Buty and you won't be disappointed.

More Reviews Industrial-strength and extremely versatile, the Kenwood Chef Classic is a boon to bakers and cooks alike. It's ideal for cookie and cake doughs, pizza and bread doughs, and gourmet sauces and desserts, such as chocolate mousse. Three attachments, instructions, and a recipe booklet are included to get you started down the gourmet path. The machine features three additional power outlets for up to 20 attachments.

Attachments include a "K-Beater" for making cakes, biscuits, pastry, icing, fillings, eclairs, and mashed potatoes; a whisk, perfect for eggs, cream, batters, meringues, cheesecakes, mousses, and soufflés; and a dough hook, which is handy for heavier mixtures, such as breads, rolls, and pizza dough.

The mixer comes with overload protection to keep you from overdoing it. And options are nearly boundless with the wide range of attachments you can add, including citrus juicer, slicer/shredder, ice cream maker, potato peeler, coffee grinder, pasta maker, mincer, and more. If that's not enough, adaptors include a sausage maker, kebbe maker, fine grater, and cookie maker.

Be sure not to submerge the power unit in water; it's easy enough to wipe clean with a nonabrasive cloth or sponge. The bowl should be hand-washed to keep the surface glossy, but attachments can go in the dishwasher. --Matthew Evans

Choosing Appliance -> Strainers
We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years.
Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers
Added features such as ice making and drinks dispensers can all add to the appeal of certain models. Ice making is an option on many American style fridge-freezers, sometimes available without opening the door, as are cold water dispensers. Zoned models offer several storage areas, all at different temperatures, designed to keep a variety of foods fresh for longer. Most manufacturers now offer adjustable shelf heights and storage units which simplify food storage.

Kitchen tips -> Two-crust pie
When making a two-crust pie, moisten the edge of the bottom crust with water before placing the second crust on top. The moistened edge will help create a good seal once the two crusts are crimped together
