Customer Reviews of Thermos Nissan 34-Ounce Vacuum Insulated Stainless-Steel Gourmet Coffee Press
Customer Rating: Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5
Summary: Fairly good
Comment: It is true that the filter is kind of cheap and that you have to make sure that you use some type of mesh filter when pouring your coffee in to your cup to prevent granules from getting in there. I drink my coffee pretty much right away so I haven't tested it to see how long it will keep the coffee warm. Overall, it works pretty much the same as any other french press...I mostly use it to steep tea. I saw something I thought was an even better idea (at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf) in the retail section. It was a glass Bodum French Press with rubber barriers on the outside of the press. I just like the idea of glass, I think my coffee kind of tasted a little different in the stainless steel...it makes me wonder if the inside was lined with any chemical? Hmmm...

Summary: Just what i wanted
Comment: works great keeps coffee hot long enough for me let stand for an hour and it was still hot. filter works ok but will un screw if you mess with it left coffee in it for a few days to season the stainless and get rid of the metallic flavor from the first pot

Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: Use carefully, ground do slip through the screen
Comment: I was dis appointed the first several tries with making coffee with this press because the coffee grounds seemed to make its way past the screen into the coffee. The thermos is not great at keeping the coffee hot for long. After a while I was able to make coffee (Less grounds in coffee) with this press by slowly and carefully plunging the press. If you want a good press and can due without the thermos go with Bodum. If your really counting on the idea of your coffee staying hot with the thermos style, you might be disappointed a little.

Summary: would recommend with a caveat
Comment: Very well constructed with no glass parts to break..easy to travel with.
Using regular drip ground coffee does leave grounds in the coffee....it will work better with a coarser grind that will not get through the filter.

Customer Rating: Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5
Summary: I wish it was a great review
Comment: Wow. I fell in love with a french press. It was one of the great conversions of my life. Then my french press broke. So I purchased another one. And then I planned a camping trip. Afraid of another broken heart, I mean carafe, I decided to take the plunge and buy an unbreakable french press.

The screen didn't fit rightly! I got grit in my coffee! Oh no!

Then I got an idea, an epiphany. I tried it, and it worked! I used an old screen on my new press. AAAHHH. Good coffee. Bad situation turned out okay, this time. But not everyone has extra french press parts just lying around. I wish it could be a great review, but it is NOT.

Choosing Appliance -> Non-stick Pans
We recommend having at least 1 high quality non-stick saute pan. It makes cooking eggs and delicate items like fish a breeze. It also cuts down on the amount of fat necessary to effectively saute. The best place to buy such pans is from a restaurant supplier.
Choosing Appliance -> Dishwashers
Check the capacity. 'Standard' 60cm wide dishwashers can take 12, 14 or 16 place settings, whilst slimline 45cm models may cater for 7, 8 or 9 place settings. Compact dishwashers tend to be 45 cm wide and can be placed on the worktop or built in, depending on the model. They may take 4, 5 or 6 place settings.

Kitchen tips -> Remove fat from soup
To remove fat from soup or stock, use one of these techniques:
  • Remove fat from soups by allowing a lettuce leaf to float on top of the soup. The lettuce will attract the fat and then the fat and lettuce leaf can be removed.
  • Add ice cubes to the soup, stir to allow fat to collect on the ice cubes, and then remove before they have melted.
  • Crumple up a piece of plastic wrap and skim the surface of the soup with it. The plastic wrap will attract fat from the surface.
  • Allow the soup to cool, place it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and when it is removed, the fat will have solidified on top and can then be easily scraped off.
