Customer Reviews of KitchenAid KBC5N Mixer Bowl Covers for 5-Quart Stand Mixer Bowls, Set of 2
Customer Rating: Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5
Summary: Kitchenaid was bought by Whirlpool. Your 5 qt. mixer may vary.
Comment: Make SURE your model number is in the model numbers list in the product description above-the models there are NOT for the 5 quart ARTISAN.I have both 5 quart mixers, a Kitchenaid KSM5 made by Kitchenaid/Hobart and a Kitchenaid Artisan, made by Whirlpool.

The 5 quart bowls look very similar but you can't hook the bowls onto the other mixer because the diameter of the bowls aren't the same. The beaters and hooks also aren't interchangeable.

S.Devereaux, a previous reviewer stated that "According to KitchenAid Customer Service these are for a discontinued bowl. The correct model number for the current 5qt bowl is KNBC." However, if you look up that model number the description is for the 6 quart mixer.

Nevertheless, since the model numbers that these lids fit are listed in the product description and they do fit my old mixer which is on the list and are as described, they have to get my 5 stars despite their dismal ratings.

Summary: It's okay, but not as expected.
Comment: I thought the picture showed an open center in the lid, so I could leave my beater attached to the mixer while covering both the bowl and mixer. However, it came without the open center, so I have to remove the mixer. It works, but just isn't what I expected or really wanted.

Summary: Must remember, read product reviews first!
Comment: I have a 5 quart bowl, these are five quart lids, Simple? No, not really. They don't fit.
Great Frisbee's though.

Customer Rating: Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5
Summary: they do not fit the artisan model
Comment: I concur with the others, these do not fit the Artisan mixer. I did a lot of research on line, including with KitchenAid, to be told that this lid fit my mixing bowls.
It does not.

Customer Rating: Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5
Summary: Not what I thought they were!
Comment: I guess I should have read the printed description better. When I saw these on Amazon they appeared to be more of a splash cover for the Kitchenaid stand mixer bowls, the image appeared to have a hole in the center, thus I thought it would be like the bowl cover for my hand mixer bowl I ordered through the Pampered Chef. I thought the lid could be placed on the bowl and the beater could go through the center hole and thus prevent splashing. No such luck, no hole in the middle and even if I adapted it and cut the plastic away from the indented center, the blade would not turn as it should. So now I have lids to put on the bowl to keep dirt and dust out!

Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans
This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking.
Choosing Appliance -> Knives
The importance of high quality knives can't be stressed enough! Buy the best you can and expect to spend some serious money. It is better to buy a couple of excellent knives and slowly add to your collection rather than buying an entire set of low quality knives. Start with a chef knife and paring knife. You will also want to buy a sharpening steel.

Kitchen tips -> Sharpening Knife
A dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one, because you apply to it more pressure and force to cut through foods. It can easily slip out of place as you use it and you can harm yourself. Keep your knives in good working condition by sharpening according to their use and time. There's no specified amount of time, because knives vary as much as their use; although, you can easily determine if they need sharpening by the way they cut/slice foods. If a knife can slice through a tomato and tear the skin, then it needs sharpening. If, on the other hand, the cut is clean and quick without any tears, then it needs not be sharpened.
