Summary: KitchenAid Fruit/Veggie Strainer and Food Grinder Attachment
Comment: This attachment is the best tool I've ever purchased for my KitchenAid mixer. It has made making applesauce and apple butter this year a snap. No more grinding by hand with a Foley food mill. This attachment is easy to set up and clean up. If I had known how much work it saved I would have bought it a long time ago. Worth every penny.

Summary: Gods gift to Applesauce!
Comment: This attachment is EXCELLENT and doing organic appleasauce couldnt be easier. It's easy to put together and the results are amazing. I core my apples, and from what I've been told, that's not even necessary although I still do it out of habit. Then boil them for a few minutes and drop them into the feed and out comes perfect applesauce. I did well over 20 quarts this year and my kids gobble it up, all organic and sugar free. They REQUEST it for snack! Thanks KitchenAid! By the way, this is Brians wife...lol!

Summary: Good gift
Comment: I bought this item for my daughter in law, as she was looking to make large quantities of fruit and veg sauces. She is happy with it and I thought the price was very good.

Summary: Very useful product
Comment: I've now used the vegetable strainer for tomatoes and apples to make sauce and it performed beautifully (but make sure you don't accidentally try to strain a cinnamon stick.) Also, I have used the food grinder portion on onions, garlic and carrots. You have to really push those hard fresh vegetable into the grinder but it still beats grating with a hand grater.

Cleaning some of the parts can be challenging. The white auger has a hallow center with a small hole. Food gets packed in there and you need a pipe cleaner to fish it out.

I imagine I'll be using this product a lot over the years as I do much home food preservation from my garden. I do like the ease of use.

Summary: KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder
Comment: Fantastic! After using a foley food mill for many years to make apple sauce from our apple trees and hating every hour, this item worked perfectly, requiring only a fraction of the time, including the clean up.

Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer
When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. With a front loader, you'll also save more on clothes drying, because they remove more water from your clothes during the spin cycle. Look for the Energy Star label.
Choosing Appliance -> Non-stick Pans
We recommend having at least 1 high quality non-stick saute pan. It makes cooking eggs and delicate items like fish a breeze. It also cuts down on the amount of fat necessary to effectively saute. The best place to buy such pans is from a restaurant supplier.

Kitchen tips -> Remove fat from soup
To remove fat from soup or stock, use one of these techniques:
  • Remove fat from soups by allowing a lettuce leaf to float on top of the soup. The lettuce will attract the fat and then the fat and lettuce leaf can be removed.
  • Add ice cubes to the soup, stir to allow fat to collect on the ice cubes, and then remove before they have melted.
  • Crumple up a piece of plastic wrap and skim the surface of the soup with it. The plastic wrap will attract fat from the surface.
  • Allow the soup to cool, place it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and when it is removed, the fat will have solidified on top and can then be easily scraped off.
