Customer Reviews of Kaiser Bakeware Patisserie One-Handed Flour Sifter

Summary: One-handed sifting, dishawasher safe
Comment: Love this sifter. My previous Kaiser One-Handed sifter lasted 20 years, despite it's plastic construction. I love it because it's plastic so it goes in the dishwasher and will never rust like the metal ones. It is truly one-handed sifting. I bought 2 and one of them arrived with the central piece misaligned, but I was able to re-insert it.

Summary: If you want the best....
Comment: This is the only one-handed sifter I've found that works well. Most of the small stainless steel sifters that have the spring loaded handle will pinch your fingers. I hate the one that you swing back and forth to sift... what's up with that?? If this product had stainless steel vanes and actuator, I would have given it 5 stars. In any case, you can't go wrong here!

Summary: Excellent Sifter
Comment: Sifter is so easy to use. Doesn't wear out my hand like my old one did! Very pleased with this one!

Summary: Disappointing
Comment: When my favorite sifter finally wore out after years of use, I was happy to find an identical one still available. However, I quickly found out that it only looked the same. The spring mechanism was too weak to allow the sifting blades to return to position after squeezing the handle when using more than a half cup or so of flour. After less than a dozen uses, the plastic part which attached the spring to the blade broke. Unfortunately, it appears as though Kaiser has instituted the same sort of "cost takeout" process used by many companies to maximize profits at the expense of quality.

Customer Rating: Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5Rating: 2/5
Summary: Plastic...
Comment: This can be a good sifter if only Kaiser does not use plastic for the movable parts... alas, mine can be jammed easily if I fill the cup to half its height and the reason is because the plastic "stick" that links the squeezing handle and the rotary can be bent pretty easily.

I would say that if you only want to sift a small amount of confectioners' sugar onto pastries, then this sifter is fine. However, I personally would not recommend this sifter over any others I have used. (i.e., get something else...)

More Reviews The design of this sifter lets you squeeze and hold at the same time, freeing your other hand to add ingredients. Very handy and lightweight.

Choosing Appliance -> Dishwashers
Check the capacity. 'Standard' 60cm wide dishwashers can take 12, 14 or 16 place settings, whilst slimline 45cm models may cater for 7, 8 or 9 place settings. Compact dishwashers tend to be 45 cm wide and can be placed on the worktop or built in, depending on the model. They may take 4, 5 or 6 place settings.
Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens
Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.

Useful info -> Planning your Kitchen
Ask yourself a myriad of questions about your lifestyle (and that of your family), so it's as well to have as many of the answers ready as possible. Consider:
  • who's going to be using the kitchen - is it just the cook or does everyone tend to congregate there?
  • Do you keep pets who eat or sleep in the room?
  • Do you need a table or will a breakfast bar suffice?
  • More and more families are creating a living kitchen where there is not only a dining table but also some soft seating and a television.
  • Would you consider building an extension or giving up a formal dining room to create a large kitchen/diner?
  • What other tasks are undertaken in the room apart from cooking? Is it used for laundry, ironing, homework, entertaining?
