Customer Reviews of L'Equip 528 Food Dehydrator
Customer Rating: Summary: so glad I bought it Comment: I have had this for at least 4 years. We use it for deer jerky, seasonings of all kinds that I grow in my garden. Right now I am drying tomatillos and apple slices. I have never been disappointed. The manual is very helpful. I plan to keep experimenting, especially with the price of food. Customer Rating: Summary: Dries six trays (7 square feet) of fruit in 12 hours Comment: Last week it began raining Apricots at my home and I had procrastinated buying a dehydrator to deal with this year's bumper crop of fruits. I had done my research though, and was considering a 1000-Watt Nesco American Harvest FD-1010 or Nesco American Harvest FD-1020. Instead, in all of San Diego CA the only high-end dehydrator available was this L'Equip 528, at the Great News store in Pacific Beach. So I purchased it, quite reasonably at $125 + tax. The L'Equip 528 is a 550-Watt system that comes with a 12 year warranty, six 1.2 square foot trays and an excellent user guide. It can be expanded to 20 trays by purchasing two-tray sets at $20 each. The thermostat control is labeled in degrees Fahrenheit (instead of low-med-high) so that you can get the right heat when needed for specialty fruits. So far I have dried 2 batches of apricots and another 2 batches of peaches. My experience is that it will dry 6 lbs of fruit (using six trays at 140 deg-F) in 12 hours, yielding 1 lb of excellent quality dried fruit. The trays need to be rotated about every two hours. In comparison to the Nesco 1000-Watt products, I would expect the Nesco units to dry food in less time. The digital timer on the Nesco 1020 model looks interesting but some users report you need to rotate trays every few hours when drying significant quantities of foods. In terms of cost the units are essentially the same per square foot of drying space. The long warranty on the L'Equip is a plus. I plan on buying a Nesco unit for comparison and will update this review if merited. Customer Rating: Summary: Lil'Equip is a great dryer Comment: This product is an excellent dryer. I have been using one for about 3 years, mostly drying herbs but also have dried apples and vegetables. Just bought one as gift for my daughter. They are amazing! Customer Rating: Summary: Electronics fried after 20 batches, company email/#'s disconnected/bunk Comment: It worked great, until after about 20 batches, the bottom tray melted and electronics crapped out. With a 12 yr. warranty and ~$140 purchase I expected I'd have a dehydrator for life, wrong. I tried all the phone #'s, even a Canadian one, all the email addresses and they are all bunk/disconnected or don't even exist. Interesting the site appears to still be selling items though, hmmmmm. If anyone has had success with an issue like this, I would love some suggestions. -Aa Customer Rating: Summary: Let me count the ways I love my L'Equip Comment: I highly recommend this product, because it 1. Works great: dehydrates food in hours (not days) without cooking it, to preserve the nutrients and flavor 2. Is easy to use: the directions are worth reading, but basically all you have to do is load the trays, stack them up and turn it on 3. Works well for large or small quantities - just add/remove trays 4. Is easy to keep clean: just rinse the removable trays and tray liners in the sink 5. Is compact: small rectangular trays stack vertically to use a minimum amount of counter space Help save the planet from global warming: buy local, in-season and farm-fresh produce instead of having it shipped half way around the world; then use L'Equip to preserve it for off-season use. More Reviews Your new LEquip Food Dehydrator will be able to perfectly capture the fresh-picked, in-season flavor and nutrition of almost any food for out-of-season eating enjoyment. Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes. Choosing Appliance -> Taps Dual-flow mixers provide independent hot, cold or mixed water after leaving the end of the spout. They can be deck-mounted on the sink or pillar/bridge-mounted for a more traditional look. Alternatively, choose a monobloc tap, which is a single-hole fitting that usually has two handles for hot and cold water supply. L'Equip 528 Food Dehydrator Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maintain Electrical Safely The insulation on electrical cords can become damaged by wear, flexing, or age. Do not use any cord that is stiff or cracked. Some clues that you may have an electrical problem are:
