Customer Reviews of Lodge Original Finish 8-Inch Skillet
Customer Rating: Summary: The champ Comment: There is nothing like cooking in this pan. Others have said it.If you buy the unseasoned one just rub some veg oil(or cooking oil) in it(entire surface)and bake it for about 1 hour(face down on the oven rack) at 350 degrees(use foil below to catch any oil drippings). You may have to do this twice to make the pan truly non stick, but trust me, its worth it.And no teflon worries. Customer Rating: Summary: good cast iron pan Comment: Good pan. A little smaller than I envisioned, but it gets the job done. Thank you. Customer Rating: Summary: I like Lodge Comment: I have 3 of these. One was a gift about 30 years ago and then I bought two more when I found them on sale. Great for re-heating, grilling a sandwich, making hashbrowns, you name it. Food doesn't stick like it does in my stainless cookware. Customer Rating: Summary: An essential piece of kitchen equipment Comment: This is a key piece of kitchen hardware. Cast iron is 100% better than stainless steel, it gets hot and stays hot. It is effectively nonstick once it's seasoned and provided you add food at the correct temperature. Do NOT use soap to clean seasoned cast iron, just hot water and a brush. Seasoned cast iron is what Teflon is meant to be. I find that women tend to scoff at cast iron -- my wife took years to come around to admitting that my Lodge cast iron cookware worked better than her steel pans. Buy Lodge cast iron, season it, it will last more than a lifetime. There is no better cookware! Customer Rating: Summary: Lodge lasts forever Comment: I'm still using the Lodge Cast Iron Skillet that my mother got for a wedding present in 1954! I give one as as wedding gifts, housewarming gifts, and to those kids stepping out into their own apartments. Cast Iron is ALWAYS a superior value for the money. Forget expensive wedding registries - buy the bride a Lodge Cast Iron Skillet and Dutch Oven! She'll hand it down to the next generation. A must have for EVERY kitchen More Reviews The most important properties of cast iron are its heat retention and heat distribution. It is also extremely durable. With seasoning and time, a natural, permanent non-stick cooking surface develops. If properly cared for, cast iron will last for generations. Considered by professional chefs to be precision cooking tools, quality cast iron utensils enable precise control of cooking temperatures. Its heat retention qualities allow for even cooking temperatures without hot spots.... Choosing Appliance -> Food Processor This is a big ticket item, but worth its weight in gold. It will save so much time when it comes to simple chopping or more advanced preparations like mayonnaise. As with most things, buy quality-- it will last longer, be capable of tougher jobs, and give you less problems. To make the food processor easiest to use, leave it on the counter top instead of storing it in a cabinet. Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean. Lodge Original Finish 8-Inch Skillet Kitchen tips -> Powdered sugar When making powdered sugar frosting, add a pinch of baking powder to make the frosting creamier and keep it from cracking |
