Customer Reviews of Hoover U5290-900 Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner
Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: Not so bad and not so good....
Comment: I have been using this vacuum for about 4 years. Not much trouble with it. I replaced the belt once. Prabably I was lucky reviewing others complaints about the flimsy belt. Here are some good things and bad things about this vacuum based on my experience.
Pros: Powerful suction. Washable filter. Durable.
Cons: Heavy. Messy when emptying the dust chamber.
So, I think it is a right one for you if you don't want to spend money on dust bags or filters and don't care about the weight.

Summary: Bagless Wonder
Comment: I recently received one of these vacumes and having used bagless vacumes before, I was quite pleased with the ease in which this vacume can be cleaned. I agree with some of the reviews on the belt issue. I have had to change this one already. The belts seem to break easily if you go over objects as big as crayon pieces or coins but then it is not a shop vac! As for the amount of dirt that it picks up it is great! It really cleans down deep as evidenced by the amount of dirt in the container. Yes it is dusty but removing the container and taking it to the garage is a minor inconvienance when you figure you're not having to buy bags all the time. I would suggest having a few extra belts on hand though. As for the price, it is not the most expensive and well worth the money. Shop for the vacume that best fits your need. This is a good floor model and it's weight makes it hard to do stairs and carry around.

Summary: near worthless
Comment: It's amazing that a company whose rep is based on it's vacuums would sell such a unit. When I had to go over the areas I vacuumed in order to pick up what was remaining on the floor, what use was it except for the possible dust that was found in the container? When approaching Hoover about this, their recommendation was to return the unit. So I did.

Summary: poor design
Comment: Once i used mine for a while i notice it had a lot of design problems. The Hepa filter is not where it should be. It is inside the canister where it serves no purpose. It should be attached to the exaust where all the air comes out. The filter hoover has put on there is a small mesh type screen. You can wash it out but it is not going to stop any pollen or dust mites. Also beware, if it doesn't say TRUE Hepa then its not the same thing. The height adjustment nob is quite flimsy and has broken off a few times. The drive belt has also broken 3 times and i had to replace it. There are better choices out there.

Summary: No suction power, makes a mess
Comment: I've had this vacuum for over a year because I spent $200 on it, but I've had enough and will finally give it the boot. It's a mess to empty, a pain to clean the filter's 100 crevices. On a bare floor you can just see the dirt being pushed in front of the vac or coming out the back. I've held up the hose one inch from a single dog hair, it will not pick it up. On top of that it's heavy and loud.

More Reviews Instead of requiring disposable bags, this bagless vacuum employs two sealed, hygienic chambers to capture dirt. Three filters--a prefilter, an anti-allergen HEPA filter that traps 99.97 percent of particles down to .3 microns in size, and a final filter--ensure that dust and dirt stay in the chambers and clean air returns to the room. The twin chambers--called the 'dirt cup'--are transparent and easily removed for emptying. You can rinse all three filters periodically, and wash the final filter in mild detergent.
Other noteworthy features of the 1,440-watt vacuum include: a headlight to illuminate the 15-inch cleaning path; a slide to adjust the brush roll for various carpet heights and the bare-floor setting; stiff-bristle edge groomers to dig out dirt along baseboards; a soft base to protect furniture; a stretch hose and extension wand for onboard attachments (including an upholstery nozzle, dusting brush, and crevice tool); and a three-position handle for cleaning under furniture and stairs. The vacuum assembles with one nut and bolt and three screws (included) and carries a one-year warranty against defects.

Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Dryer
When shopping for a new clothes dryer, look for one with a moisture sensor that automatically shuts off the machine when your clothes are dry. Not only will this save energy, it will save wear and tear on your clothes caused by over-drying. Keep in mind that gas dryers are less expensive to operate than electric dryers. The cost of drying a typical load of laundry in an electric dryer is 30 to 40 cents compared to 15 to 25 cents in a gas dryer.
Choosing Appliance -> Taps
Dual-flow mixers provide independent hot, cold or mixed water after leaving the end of the spout. They can be deck-mounted on the sink or pillar/bridge-mounted for a more traditional look. Alternatively, choose a monobloc tap, which is a single-hole fitting that usually has two handles for hot and cold water supply.

Useful info -> Energy-Efficient Dishwashers
Most of the energy used by a dishwasher is for water heating. The EnergyGuide label estimates how much power is needed per year to run the appliance and to heat the water based on the yearly cost of gas and electric water heating. When it is time to buy a new unit, look for the Energy Star label.
