Customer Reviews of Professional Mixer
Customer Rating: Summary: Get a bosch Comment: My husband got me this mixer for Christmas about 5 years ago. I loved my small kitchenaid but this has been a disappointment. It has trouble mixing regular sized cookie doughs. It leaves flour in the bottom of the bowl. The biggest problem is that it can't handle a large capacity of bread dough. I have broken it twice when making only about a 10 cup of flour batch. I didn't buy a $400 6 qt mixer to make 3 loaves at a time! And if it doesn't break, the dough climbs up the arm of the beater and gets mixer grease in it. I'm tired of it and am getting a bosch. It should last longer than 5 years! Customer Rating: Summary: Hooked on KitchenAid Comment: I've wanted a KitchenAid stand mixer ever since I was a little girl. You may even say I coveted it. I've been baking since I was five and the kitchen always seemed like home to me. (I was lucky enough to have a mother that would allow me into that inner sanctum of the home whenever we were out of chocolate chip oatmeal cookies or needed bread for a nice dinner) I diverge. I finally got this refurb at the age of 21 and it is the centerpiece of my collection in Empire Green. I haven't had a single complaint about it in the years since. I use it for everything. While I don't have a meat grinder and I have the standalone KA Juicer, I have recently added the Ice Cream Attachment as well as the Pasta Attachments. Only spending a few hours in the kitchen over the weekend, my freezer is now well-stocked with homemade bread, pizza, ice cream, and pasta. The powerful engine kneads my bread to a smoothness I couldn't have imagined from a machine. I thought nothing could compare to hand-kneaded bread, but this mixer kneads to the perfect elasticity and the dough doesn't stick to it or the dough hook. I don't have to add in an extra half hour for cleaning when it comes to pizza either. Just toss in the ingredients in the proper temperature, knead for ten minutes, cover to rise for two hours, (watch a great old weekend film) and we're eating pizza once my daughter has decorated her's to a T with fresh ingredients. Pasta is the newest for me and I am still getting the hang of it. Attachment is great and easy. My whole-wheat recipe just needs some tweaking. Ice cream is a total breeze. Growing up, my family and I would make ice cream every Fourth of July in the creaking wooden hand-crank machine. If you didn't crank (which often meant pinching your frozen, salty hand in the gear) you didn't get to eat it. Now, I just make my batter, throw it in and leave it for 20-30 minutes, toss in some extras, and it's soft serve, ready to go. (Or hardens to store-bought "premium" consitency in the freezer, if it lasts that long in my house) Two great ideas for gifts! Who could turn down fresh pasta and custom homemade ice cream? KitchenAid makes it all so simple. I know that I'll be benefiting from years of history in its engineering for years to come and that my daughter will be able to use it forever as well, if she can wait long enough for mine without getting one of her own. The look in her eyes when the motor hums on tells me she won't be able to wait. Customer Rating: Summary: I love Kitchenaid reconditioned products Comment: I bought this mixer a few years ago from amazon and I'm still amazed at the price. $[...] for this beast of a mixer, I use it to kneed dough for bread all the time and it just chews through it, making my life a breeze. Customer Rating: Summary: Just as great as new! Comment: After seeing that everyone on the Food Network shows seemed to have a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, I decided they must be good machines (or that the KA company paid a lot for the product spot advertising). I started doing my research of friends and family and people who use them, and realized that I wanted one. I'm not a professional chef or breadmaker or anything else... I'm a mom and wife who enjoys to cook, and I'm always willing to invest in quality machines to make things just a bit easier in the kitchen. I kept a close eye on the prices for some time until I got this steal of a deal - when the factory reconditioned ones were available (and when there was the additional $25 off special) AND there was free shipping AND I could get the 6qt. for a better price than the 5, it was time to buy. The unit arrived within a week, and other than the generic looking box, it appeared brand new. I have no idea why it was sent back to the factory for reconditioning, since to my eye there was nothing wrong with it. I love the green color, too! The unit IS heavy, but is very stable even when mixing large batches of dough. It DOES take up quite a lot of counter space, but it's worth giving up the square inches for such a nice machine. The 10 speed is amazingly fast, and whips egg whites to perfection. The slower speeds do a very good job of thoroughly mixing bread and other doughs. I've had this unit for 18 months, and have been very impressed. I've had no problems at all with any part of it. Thankfully my cupboards are high, so the unit does fit on my counter with no problem - but be sure to measure. The ergonomic handle on the mixer bowl is a must-have (some of the smaller qt. models don't have it), since the bowl and ingredients can get very heavy. As for the pouring shield, I've never missed not having it. If you need to, just slow the mixer down to add ingredients. The only quirky thing to me is the bowl lift handle (which is a great feature) - I always seem to want to push or pull it the wrong direction... but that might just be me! Overall, a fantastic product at an unbeatable value! Customer Rating: Summary: Love it!! Comment: I got my kitchenaid 6qt. stand mixer about 3.5 years ago. I use it at home at least once a week. I've used it to make all kinds of things... stiff cookie dough, whipped cream, cakes. I even made my sister's wedding cake with it, which I wouldn't have been able to do without the mixer! It mixes thoroughly, doesn't require much bowl scraping. We use it often with the meat grinder attachment, which saves money. I can store all my attachments right in the bowl, and I leave the machine on my kitchen counter. It's too beautiful to put away! I didn't think I'd use it very often when I got it, but now I don't know how I ever lived without it! If that describes you - and you have the space - be sure one of the ovens is equipped with a broiler that provides at least 3,000 watts of cooking power. Also look for racks that pull all the way out and lock in place for safe, easy access to the oven. On the inside, a dark interior shows less baked-on grime, while a porcelain interior is easier to clean Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen. They are not user friendly. Once you get down to serious cutting or chopping, the small boards are always woefully inadequate and downright maddening!
