Customer Reviews of Rösle Crosswise Swivel Peeler

Summary: Truly the Mercedes Benz of peelers
Comment: There is not much to say; if you want the best peeler any amount of money can buy; you just found it. Relatively speaking I don't feel it is expensive at all; it has a life time warranty, so buy it!

Summary: Ultra-sharp peeler!
Comment: Sure, the Rosle peeler is a little pricey, but it looks great, and performs well. I've had this peeler for about 2 years now, and it's worth every penny. And it's still razor sharp after all these years- in fact, almost too sharp. I've cut myself or sliced off fingernails on several occasions when I wasn't careful.

Carrots, daikons, potatoes, are all peeled with great ease. It used to take at least twice as long to peel with my old peeler, but as another reviewer said, it's like the proverbial hot knife through butter. The difference when using this Rosle peeler is like between night and day.

You won't regret purchasing this handy tool for your kitchen. My only concern is- are the blades replaceable? It doesn't appear to be manually sharpenable.

Summary: Buy it!
Comment: Amazon Review is incorrect in claiming that all Rosle products are made in Germany. But if you read carefully enough, the "Product Feature" says that it is "German-DESIGNED" not "German-made." If having a German-made product is such an important issue, check the discrepancy between the two descriptions before purchasing it online. In any case, it's Amazon's fault for misleading consumers, not Rosle's, and reviewing for this product without even having used it seems ridiculous. Now for someone who actually owns this peeler, all I can say is that it's a wonderful product. No, it's not German-made, but personally I don't think it would make a difference (unless we're talking about knives). It's designed well, it feels substantial in your hand, and it peels everything and cleans with such an ease that others have decided to buy it after using mine.

Summary: Rosle - not always "Made in Germany"
Comment: I don't actually own the Rosle peeler so I cannot comment directly on it. I do own a few other Rosle products and have found them to work well.

However, my comment is to counter something in Fred Brack's official Amazon review as I believe he is misleading customers.

Not all Rosle products are "Made in Germany." Many are "Made in China" and it's difficult to tell from the labels Rosle attaches to its products. Williams Sonoma, for example, adds "Made in China" onto its price sticker, probably to spare customers from finding out later and being incensed.

Rosle's Chinese products may be as good as Rosle's German products. I don't know. But, personally, I think there's more to it. If I'm going to pay Rosle's prices, I want a quality product made in a country with decent labor laws and pollution controls. That's not China.

Before you pay German prices, check if the Rosle product you're ordering is really made there.

Summary: This peeler is AMAZING!!!
Comment: I first used this peeler at a Viking Culinary cooking class and it knocked my socks off! I've always hated to peel veggies and am the lazy type who leaves the skin on for mashed potatoes.

Anyway, this peeler literally peels vegetables like it's cutting butter. It's almost effortless and takes less than half the time to peel when compared to traditional peelers. It actually makes peeling FUN!

The price is a little steep (Amazon has the best price anywhere), but it's definitely a worthwhile investment. Happy Peeling!

More Reviews Peeling has never been easier. With this stainless steel 6.75-in. swivel peeler, fruit and vegetables with thin or semi-thin skin can be quickly and easily peeled with the firmly-anchored swivel blade. Potato eyes and damaged parts of the vegetable can be easily rooted out with the point of the tool, which is sharpened on both sides. The peeler also cuts fine decorative strips perfect for garnishes, salads and Wok dishes. Use it on long, thin vegetables such as carrots, courgettes, radishes, cucumbers and turnips.

Choosing Appliance -> Ladles
Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes.
Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens
Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.
