Customer Rating:   Summary: Fatal Flaw Comment: I would like to echo the sentiments of the other reviewers. This pot is excellent, except for the plastic top. The lid is extremely tight and requires using the platic handle to remove it. Problem is, it just isn't sturdy enough. Very disappointing. After reading the other reviews, I've decided not to order a replacement part and chalk this up as a bad purchase. Customer Rating: Summary: Love this percolator Comment: Coffee just seems to taste better when percolated rather than "dripped". Also, serves a hotter cup of coffee - which I prefer. I'll probably never go back to drip! I have tried other types of percolators and this one makes the best tasting coffee. I thought for such a good price ($16) I would just replace the plastic perk top from the get go with a glass one. Well, this one is not made so that the perk top can be unscrewed; it has to be broken off of the top. Also, the hole it leaves in the top is too small for the "fitz-all" replacement perk tops. Guess I'll use it awhile only while watching it, and if the plastic breaks I'll just ream out the hole to be able to get a replacement glass perk top into it. It does look very nice but, like all the new percolator manufacturers, they seem to be concerned only with making a pot of coffee FAST rather than really brewing the coffee. That's why the new ones are 1000 watts. I prefer the old 450 watt percolators that really brew the coffee for 15-20 minutes. Anyway, that's my take on this product. Customer Rating: Summary: Awesome Coffee Comment: This is my second purchase of this coffee pot. The first one is still working perfectly (for about 2 years now) but I couldn't bear the thought that it might someday just wear out from it's daily brewing task. So, fearing that the manufacturer might someday discontinue this model, I bought a second one. The main reason that I like this coffee pot is that it is stainless steel. There's no plastic touching the coffee (if you don't count the small plastic topper where the coffee perks up). Therefore, you get only pure coffee taste. And the pot can be easily scoured to remove oils, stains, etc. I love it! If I outlive both my current one and it's replacement and can't find another, I guess I'll just quit drinking coffee! Choosing Appliance -> Ladles Look for ladles that are made of one piece of stainless steel rather than a handle and dome which are spot welded together. With use, spot welded ladles tend to come apart. Buy several differnet sizes. Choosing Appliance -> Mixer Pretty much the same thoughts as the food processor. High quality mixers are great for making bread or other tough jobs. Every kitchen should have one. Be sure that any mixer has all three attachments: paddle, dough hook, and whip.
