Customer Reviews of Melitta MEPT1B Perfect Time 12-Cup Coffeemaker
Customer Rating: Summary: Works great Comment: I'm surprised at all the bad reviews. Sounds like a lot of user error to me. This coffee maker works very well. It is fast- a 12 cup pot in about seven minutes. The atomic clock works great. Took about an hour to sync up and that was it. It has been perfect ever since. The display is nice and big. The carafe pours without dribbling all over the counter. Setting the auto-start is also a snap. What's not to like? It makes great coffee. Picked mine up at ACE hardware for 49.99 I do believe it is old stock- neither Melitta or Salton (the warranty card is for salton-maxim, the web site on the warranty card is a dead link) offer this style anymore. So I'm not sure who warranties it. But these things are virtually disposable anyway. If you get 5-6 years of daily use with any auto coffee maker, regardless of price, consider yourself lucky. Customer Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS **NOT A O N E S TAR ITEM** Comment: Unfortunately at AMAZON you don't have the option of NO star. The atomic clock not working is only one of a myriad of problems for this hunk of junk. The BREW time is way too SLOW for starters, but that wouldn't matter if the pause/serve worked. Not to mention, it leaks and it is very difficult to get a 'ground FREE' cup of joe. I have had my share of good & bad coffee makers. This is definitely the WORST NOT worth it! Customer Rating: Summary: "I should make coffee in the nursery" Comment: I am so disappointed with this coffeemaker. I bought this brand on a recommendation of a friend when I told her I couldn't stand drip coffee but couldn't find a decent perculator around when I needed to replace my 10 year old Farberware one. So I bought it, brought it home, made a pot of coffee and it is the best darn coffee I have ever made at home. I waited for a week for the atomic clock to work. Nothing. I called Salton and found very unresponsive customer service people who told me "we have been having problems with the coffee makers in Connecticut catching the radio waves". And "would I please move my pot to the western most room in the house for 1 week". I told her this would be the bathroom or the nursery. She laughed and said "well you certainly wouldn't want to make the coffee in the bathroom so make sure the coffee pot is out of reach of your baby". I almost passed out because I wasn't going to make coffee in either of these rooms and told her as much. She said she was sorry, but she couldn't help me then. Ok, so I set the clock manually because this pot still made great coffee. Within two days I filled a cold pot with cold water and as I was lifting it out of the sink the pot went crashing into the sink and I was standing there holding the handle. I call up those ever so not helpful reps at Salton and tell them what happened. And they, in their ever helpful way, charge me for a new pot because this is considered "normal wear and tear". I buy the new pot and now sometimes the coffee makes it into the pot and sometimes, for whatever reason, it decides to overflow and I have coffee all over the place. I have the pot pushed all the way in, I am constantly double checking it. Anyways, this sits in my garage as strictly a backup. I have used it again because I bought a Farberware perculator, but after 2 months the plastic top broke right off I called about it and guess what Salton makes Farberware small appliances now and my broken top was "normal wear and tear" and I could buy a new top. Now the thing is not working at all. Somehow I should have known Salton was behind this. I have to check and see if they make Eureka vacuums as well, been having a problem with my 3 week old one! Customer Rating: Summary: A Great Coffee Maker Comment: I've enjoyed my Melitta Perfect Time coffeemaker for over a year. My husband doesn't like it because he didn't push the carafe in all the way and had a mess to clean up. However, my sister and neice have visited and liked it so much they each are buying one! Customer Rating: Summary: No time for perfect coffee Comment: This coffee maker makes great coffee but the atomic clock does not work! The atomic clock for this coffee maker worked for about and week and then quite. I have been trying to get the coffee maker repaierd or replaced for over three months. Melitta refers you to Salon the manufacturer who has a completely unresponsive customer service department. Customer service does not respond to e-mails and telephoning produces little reults. I have been promised a return authorization and mailing label for months and have yet to see it. May be I need to talk to George Forman since they also make his grill to see if he can help get it repaired.. More Reviews Equipped with a digital clock/timer tuned by a radio receiver to the U.S. atomic clock, this coffeemaker brews up to twelve 5-ounce cups of coffee and, because the clock/timer can be programmed up to 24 hours in advance, will begin the brewing process automatically for wake-up coffee. The clock is split-second accurate because it automatically adjusts, if necessary, to the atomic clock's signals six times every 24 hours. The atomic clock, operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is one of the most accurate in the world. The coffeemaker brews at a high temperature for speed--35 seconds per cup, with a four-cup minimum. For a quick pour, it automatically pauses the brewing process for 30 seconds when the carafe is removed from its warming plate. The glass carafe has a guard to protect the knuckles and is dishwasher-safe. On the coffeemaker's left side is a transparent gauge for monitoring the water level. The filter basket accommodates cone-shaped paper filters and removes for filling and cleaning. Lightweight and clad in bright plastic, the 1,450-watt coffeemaker has push-in cord storage, measures 13-1/2 inches high, 8 inches wide, and 9-1/2 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. * Brews 12 5-ounce cups of coffee at high temperature * 24-hour programmable clock/timer; brew-pause for pouring a cup mid brew * Radio receiver sets and updates time for chosen zone with US atomic clock * 1450 watts; water-level gauge; cord storage; dishwasher-safe glass carafeMeasures 13-1/2 by 8 by 9-1/2 inchesAtomic clock automatically sets precise time of day-Circuit board receives regular signals from U.S. atomic clock-Automatically adjusts for Daylight Savings-Accelerated brewing time, just 35 seconds per cup-Auto shut-off after 1 hour-Automatic pause and pour-Hidden cord storage * Color: Black * Manufacturer: Melitta * Capacity: 12 cups * Power output: 1450 watts * Reusable filter: No * Timer: Yes * Auto s Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. A chinois is an expensive purchase, but with care it will last many years. Choosing Appliance -> Hobs If you enjoy eastern cuisine, you can buy a speciality hob with a wok burner. Similarly if you are a BBQ fan, choose a BBQ grill. If you are left handed, go for front rather than right hand side controls as this eliminates the risk of reaching across the heat. If you cook for a large family, more than four rings may be useful, and if you have young children it may be worth considering paying a little extra for a hob guard or in the case of gas, choosing an automatic re-ignition or cut off device should the flame blow out. Melitta MEPT1B Perfect Time 12-Cup Coffeemaker Kitchen tips -> Onion To produce good tasting, crisp onions, slice or chop onions and place them in a bowl. Cover the onions with water and then add some ice to the water. Let the onions soak for 15 minutes to an hour and then drain before serving |
