Customer Reviews of DeLonghi DFH132 SafeHeat Fan Heater
Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: Excellent heater, until it turns itself off
Comment: The heater does its job well. We've been transferring it from room to room, and it is complementary to our central heating.

Unfortunately, it has a tendency to shut itself off, especially when used in small spaces (like the bathroom or the kitchen). We assume it's some sort of protection from overheating mechanism, but it's still quite annoying, and limits our use to large rooms.

Summary: wonderful little heater
Comment: This little heater was everything I was looking for. It travels with me in my house (we have oil heat and we are avoiding turning it on) and it heats up almost every place. Its a little loud for the bedroom at night, but it usually shuts off within 20 minutes or so after its reached its desired temperature. I think its a pretty good product for only $20.

Summary: mixed experience
Comment: I bought this header a couple years ago and use it constantly as a fan in summer and heater in the winter. Overall I like it -- works well, not very noisy, stable design. Recently, it started failing to shut off when I turn it off. I have to unplug it, which isn't that difficult, but now I'm leery of the failsafe, which is one of the features I was interested in since I have a cat and the heater could possibly be tipped over. Still using it though, I just took it to work where my cat does not go.

Summary: So far it's exactly what I wanted
Comment: Bought this based strictly on Amazon reviews, which BTW I think is a great way to buy.

I've had it a week and it works great.

I have a 10x12 room with my computer and a small TV where I have my morning coffee so for the first 3-4 hours of the day I'm only heating this room. It's 28 outside today, the rest of my house is 60, and my room is a comfortable 70 with this unit on low heat (2 speed high 1500/low 750) and the thermostat set between 2 and 3 (offers 1-6).

Some have remarked that the controls are a little difficult. I used a fine tip black magic marker and highlighted the numbers and that was a good fix. You'll get a feel for the controls in a day or so anyway and now that it's set I just plug it in every morning. The cord and housing have been cool to the touch, heats well, thermostat cycles with no problem. For $20 it's a good value.

Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans
This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking.
Choosing Appliance -> Salad spinner
While some may consider this a bit on the gadgety side, I think it is a must as dressings do not stick to water-logged salad greens.

Kitchen tips -> Sifting of dry ingredients
If sifting of dry ingredients is called for in a recipe, instead of sifting, add all the dry ingredients in a bowl and mix with a wire whisk.
