Customer Reviews of Lodge 10-Inch Chef Skillet
Customer Rating: Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5Rating: 5/5
Summary: the original "no-stick" pan
Comment: My last one got misplaced in a move and, quite frankly, I find cooking without a cast-iron fry pan, somewhat less than perfect. These were the first "non-stick" pans and, unlike the modern versions, don't wear out, while depositing a steady supply of plastic in your food.
Cast iron distributes heat more evenly, so even if you are forced to cook on an electric stove, you have better control over your cooking temperatures. If you get a preseasoned pan, you should clean it up and season it yourself. After that, you can easily maintain the cooking surface with a copper scouring pad and some paper towels.

More Reviews In 1896 Joseph Lodge was strolling through the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee and discovered the perfect place to settle his family and start his cast iron manufacturing company. Still family-owned and run, Lodge is the world's largest and oldest manufacturer of cast iron products. World-renowned New Orleans chef, Paul Prudhomme prefers "blackening" his famous Cajun dishes in Lodge cast iron.

Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens
Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean.
Choosing Appliance -> Spoons
Buy stainless spoons (both slotted and non-slotted) which are solid and won't bend no matter how tough the job. Also, buy several high quality wooden spoons for stirring delicate dishes like risotto (the sharp edge of a metal spoon would cut or bruise the rice).

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maintain Electrical Safely
The insulation on electrical cords can become damaged by wear, flexing, or age. Do not use any cord that is stiff or cracked. Some clues that you may have an electrical problem are:
  • Flickering lights. If the lights dim every time you turn on an appliance that circuit is overloaded or has a loose connection.
  • Sparks. If sparks appear when you insert or remove a plug, they could be a sign of loose connections.
  • Warm electrical cord. If an electrical cord is warm to the touch, the cord is underrated or defective.
  • Frequent blown fuses or broken circuits. A fuse or circuit breaker that keeps tripping is an important warning sign of problems.
  • Frequent bulb burnout. A light bulb that burns out frequently is a sign that the bulb is too high a wattage for the fixture.
