Customer Rating: Summary: pressure cooker gasket Comment: My Fagor pressure cooker lid measures 10 inches in diameter. I ordered this gasket, which states it is for 10" diameter lids. However, the gasket itself measures 10 3/4". It is too big for the 10" lid. Customer Rating: Summary: The problem is with the description Comment: I think the reason people are being sent the wrong size gasket is related to the problem in the description. I have a 6 quart Spendid and it takes a 10" gasket -- as do all Splendid models, except for the 2 in 1. So, this gasket is not only for 8 and 10 quart single models, but for others, as well. Be sure to check the fagor USA site before you order a gasket, and be sure to get two. Example: My dog had surgery so I needed to pressure cook him some meat so it would be soft. Stupidly, I left the lid next to the cooker on the stove and burned the gasket. I did not have a spare. This is the only time in my life I ever put a lid on the grate of my stove - I know better. So I had to cook the meat for like 6 hours. When this burns, it turns into white powder, by the way. Customer Rating: Summary: always need a spare Comment: My 10 quart Fagor pressure cooker is still new. My past experience with pressure cookers caused me to order a spare ring/gasket. Very happy to find a source on Amazon. Customer Rating: Summary: Great replacement gasket Comment: This item is a replacement gasket. Per the other reviewer, if you received a 12 in gasket instead of a 10 in, then send the wrong item back. I have ordered three gaskets in the past three years and I have received the correct item. Please note that you should replace your gasket at least once a year to ensure proper seal. More Reviews A gasket's primary purpose is to create a constant tight seal. Over time a gasket can dry out and lose its elasticity. If you notice this happening, replace the gasket immediately. A worn out gasket can lead to steam not building up, or worse, escaping from your cooker. 
Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers By law manufacturers must disclose the energy efficiency of their appliances, rated A to G. These are usually displayed prominently in showrooms.
