Customer Rating:  Summary: Essential Kitchen tool Comment: Forget those rubber floppy "grips" or the plastic toothed band...this is the product every kitchen must have for opening those stubborn jars. It has several different layers of steel-toothed grips at different diameters, and will grasp from the tiniest to the largest jar cap that I have found. (Along with this, be sure to purchase the jarpop jar opener...a VERY handy device that pops the vacuum that holds the lid down, when you have a previously unopened jar.) This tool also helps if a jar has been in the refrigerator and gets slippery from the cold and moisture when taken out. I have had one of these tools for several years, and recently bought several to give to friends. Once you have this you will wonder why you waited to long to discover this great tool! Choosing Appliance -> Knives The importance of high quality knives can't be stressed enough! Buy the best you can and expect to spend some serious money. It is better to buy a couple of excellent knives and slowly add to your collection rather than buying an entire set of low quality knives. Start with a chef knife and paring knife. You will also want to buy a sharpening steel. Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. Kitchen tips -> Too salty soup If your soup becomes too salty when you are preparing it, try adding a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of cider vinegar to combat the saltiness. Another method to try is to add a raw potato to the soup to absorb some of the extra salt |
