Customer Rating: Summary: Nice digital scale Comment: I bought this scale because Alton Brown recommended it in several of his books and on his old web site. This was back in mid 2004. It still has the original battery in it. I don't know how people can be complaining about battery life. It turns itself of automatically after 2 minutes of idle time. I love this scale because it is very accurate and easy to use. One button controls everything. I have only a couple complaints: 1. The rubber cover on that button got a crack in it not long after I got it. This MAY have been due to the fact that it went through several moves after I got it. 2. I wish there was an easier way to switch from grams to ounces. It would be nice to be able to do it on the fly. You have to turn the unit off and open a rubber cover on the bottom to switch it from one mode to the other. It's a simple little slide switch. Since I started using it, I decided it was best to just keep it on the metric setting because it's so much easier to do the math when dividing stuff (I'm really good at math, but it's still a pain to the sixteenth thing all the time, why get a calculator out when you can do tenths in your head?). The other nice thing about this scale is that it looks good enough to leave it out on the counter all the time. Most of the time, I use this for making bread, so I don't need the 11 pound capacity that people seem to need. When (and if) I ever need that capacity, I won't hesitate to get that cool looking three legged model that Soehnle sells. Customer Rating: Summary: Great Product Comment: It works as advertised. It is very consistent and accurate with a simple and elegant design. The only detractor is that you have to do get under the hood to switch from metric to Imperial. I don't do that very often so it doesn't really bug me, but still loses a star for me because of it. I still highly recommend it though. Choosing Appliance -> Do I need a dishwasher? If you enjoy washing by hand, no! However modern machines use less water, detergent and power than ever before and wash hotter using really powerful cleaners giving a hygienic wash result. You can save around 500 hours a year so it is worth thinking about. If you have a small kitchen or live alone, choose a slimline model. Choosing Appliance -> Grater In our opinion, the old fashioned box graters work the best since they are sturdy and offer several different grating sizes. Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Natural Granite Maintenance Granite must not be rubbed with abrasive materials instead, wash with clean warm water to which a non-abrasive light neutral detergent (PH7) may be added. Rinse with clean warm water and dry with a chamois leather or similar. Drainer Grooves can be cleaned using wire wool. |
