Customer Rating:   Summary: Good Value, Good Quality Comment: i've owned this product for several years now. it may be plastic, but don't let that fool you. for the inexpert, this machine is super easy to use. and for the expert barista like myself, the espresso tastes pretty darned good. i make a mocha nearly every morning. i don't use the frothing wand 'cause i'm used to a high-powered one. i heat my milk on the stove or in the microwave. for this price, it's worth the money. lately, however, i have noticed the steam is escaping from the lid. which means, i think, the seal is not working properly. but, i've gotten what i paid for out of it, which was about the same price as amazon. like i said, i've had this machine for several years. and for a delonghi product, the quality can't be beat! I have wanted an espresso machine for a long time. The cost however, was prohibitive. This little machine is under $50.00 USD. Don't let the low price put you off. It makes some mighty fine espresso and cappuccino. It's very easy to use. The only thing I don't like about it is the lid for the espresso pot. If you use the lid (and you don't really have to) it makes getting the pot under the filter clumsy. I've been using illa coffee in the machine. Makes a good cup of espresso every time. I loved my machine, however, I have to warm the cups before making the coffee, otherwise, until the proccess ends, the coffee won't be that hot. Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Strainers We recommend 2 strainers for every kitchen. The first is a solid stainless steel colander (one big enough to wash a lot of lettuce at once). The second strainer is a fine mesh conical strainer (called a chinois) which is a must for any serious sauce or stock making. Kitchen tips -> Two-crust pie When making a two-crust pie, moisten the edge of the bottom crust with water before placing the second crust on top. The moistened edge will help create a good seal once the two crusts are crimped together |
