Summary: Useless Junk
Comment: I purchased this product, reading that other reviewers had issues with the temperature probe not working after a couple uses, thinking "oh, it must be something THEY did, not a product defect". I am here to say I was wrong. The temperature probe is useless beyond only 1 use (my first hand experience). I cooked 1 product with successful results, and the next time I tried to use this Maverick thermometer, I realized how much of a piece of garbage this unit actually is. Don't get me wrong now, the product clearly has potential, showing what meats and what "doneness" temperature is appropriate, and the physical plastic/LCD unit itself doesn't seem bad. However, the whole purpose of the unit is to read the internal temperature of foods that are being cooked (hence it's an electronic thermometer). However, by the time I wanted to use this unit for the 2nd time, the temperature reading just said "HI", even when the probe was room temperature, or if the probe was put into another food item to monitor.
Let me also say that other reviewers have hypothesized that the failure of the temperature probe may be due to water getting beyond where the metal is crimped.. Well, that's clearly not what causes the thermometer unit to fail. I took extra care to wipe the probe with a moist cloth after the 1st use, and get water nowhere near the "crimped" area, and the unit still does not work after 1 use.
Believe myself and all the other reviewers who will warn you that the probe will stop working almost as soon as you plug it in, whether it's from 1, 2, or 3 uses, it will fail. Don't waste your money or time on this product.

Summary: Probe doesn't last long even when baby it
Comment: I bought this in December 07 and it worked just great, you can manually adjust the "done" temperature which I did for a turkey at christmas, and it was PERFECT, unfortunately I have only gotten about 6 uses out of it and the probe died. The unit gives me the "HIGH" alarm as soon as I plug it. This began on its 4th use and I found that if I moved the wire at the probe I could eventually get it to work and I was able to get 2 more uses out of it. Mind you, I have never submerged the probe to wash it, I cleaned it with a damp sponge, NEVER pulled on the probe wire, never exposed it to temps above 400F and never used it in a barbeque. After reading the reviews here, I thought that handling it with "kid gloves" would make it last, I was wrong. The unit should come with several probes to at least get you through enough uses to where you can say "well, I guess I got my money's worth out of it.

Comment: I was led to this product Maverick ET-8 Electronic Thermometer and Timer through a site that lists products Made in USA. It was after receiving the Maverick ET-8 Thermometer and Timer with its Made in China on the packaging that I re-read the general info on the Made in USA site and learned that there are still products included that are NOT made in USA. I would like to see where each product is manufactured as part of the standard listing information on all sites.

Summary: Excellent Oven Thermometer
Comment: This is a great oven thermometer! It's very convenient to do other things until the beep, without having to pay attention to the oven. I've set the custom to 145 for fish, and it delivers perfect Salmon every time.
By the way I also prefer using this for boiling water, set to beep at 200, rather than the annoying (to me) whistle from a teapot.

I don't understand why so many people have used it on a barbequeue grill since it's very easy to get air temperatures over 500... way too much for the probe. I'm not sure how you can protect the wire from direct flames, and they're way above 500 degrees!

Summary: Maverick Electronic Thermometer
Comment: I have used the Maverick ET-8 Electronic Thermometer and Timer twice now and find it to be a welcome addition to my kitchen. It works as advertised and I can find no fault with it. I especially like the magnetic feature so I can hang it on the fridge rather than throw ir into a drawer to get lost with the rest of the junk.

Choosing Appliance -> Taps
Dual-flow mixers provide independent hot, cold or mixed water after leaving the end of the spout. They can be deck-mounted on the sink or pillar/bridge-mounted for a more traditional look. Alternatively, choose a monobloc tap, which is a single-hole fitting that usually has two handles for hot and cold water supply.
Choosing Appliance -> Spoons
Buy stainless spoons (both slotted and non-slotted) which are solid and won't bend no matter how tough the job. Also, buy several high quality wooden spoons for stirring delicate dishes like risotto (the sharp edge of a metal spoon would cut or bruise the rice).
