Customer Rating:   Summary: Not made in ENGLAND Comment: I expected they were not made in England for the price and I really do not care BUT would prefer it, AMAZON needs to take that off the page. I have a lot of Churchill thats made in England including completer pieces from this set. Ok....the transfer on all the dishes was fine except the side plates, they were all blurred (I got 2 sets of 20). I find this on many antique or vintage pieces as well. NO chips or cracks in shipping. I collect Blue Willow antique china and have over 200 pieces from different makers, I always wanted some just to use. Nice weight to the pieces, great for everyday use which is why I got them. Customer Rating: Summary: MY SETS WERE GREAT!!! I really loved them for everyday dishes. Last week, I saw another review on Amazon, saying that her dishes tested positive for lead! I bought a lead tester and sure enough, this morning the dishes tested positive for lead in the glaze. We are shocked and devastated! I am getting rid of the dishes, of course. Lead is a very poisonous substance. I went and bought 12 white dishes from Pottery Barn this afternoon. I'm going to test them too! Choosing Appliance -> Knives The importance of high quality knives can't be stressed enough! Buy the best you can and expect to spend some serious money. It is better to buy a couple of excellent knives and slowly add to your collection rather than buying an entire set of low quality knives. Start with a chef knife and paring knife. You will also want to buy a sharpening steel. Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. Useful info -> Fridge / Freezers No new fridge or fridge/freezer should contain CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) or HFCs (hydroflourocarbons), which have been linked to the "Greenhouse Effect". However your old fridge may contain them, so please dispose of it thoughtfully. Your local authority should be able to give you some advice and guidelines. |
