Customer Reviews of Oxo Good Grips Cake Tester
Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: Ok, but thin
Comment: I have only used this cake tester once so far, and I overcooked my cake, but it wasn't actually the testers fault because I didn't test it until it was already overcooked. My concern with the product is that the metal tester is very thin, kind of like a thick needle, and I don't know if it's thick enough to grab the cake batter and pull it out to let you know the cake is undercooked...I guess it could be designed so thin for people that don't want a visible hole poked in the top of their cake. On the upside the grip part is nice and big and easy to hold on to.

Summary: who would have thought
Comment: I was always looking for a toothpick long enough for my cakes. I could buy martini toothpicks but then I would have to store them and they are a one use item (not green at all). I keep this with the baking supplies and it is always there. For the price, I am glad I did it.

Summary: Good product
Comment: I haven't used this product yet, however it looks well made and seems like it would be a great gift for someone who enjoys baking. -- quick delivery and as expected!

Summary: must have and great filler!
Comment: not only is this item a great filler item for your cart, it is a must have for your kitchen. no more digging around in the utensils drawer for anything sharp to test your cookies, just look for this. i always throw it into my cart as a filler and give them away as gifts. i've had it for months and the thing has yet to rust or even bend out of shape. highly recommended.

Summary: Oxo Good Grips Cake Tester
Comment: I've been using wooden toothpicks "forever" in order to test my baked goods. I decided to give this a try and I'm glad I did. It's a winner, and is particularly helpful for those baked goods that are in deeper dishes, as the Oxo is about 4" long -- that's 2" longer than a toothpick! Well worth the money.

More Reviews How to know when the cake is done? There's the broom bristle method (yuck), the finger tap method (unreliable), and the toothpick method (only works with shallow cakes). If you love to bake make sure you get the best results for your efforts and use a real, genuine cake tester.

Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens
Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.
Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers
A large number of freezers have eliminated defrosting by continually circulating the air inside the freezer compartment, thus avoiding frost build-up -- a feature well worth paying a little extra for.

Kitchen tips -> Bananas
  • To ripen bananas quickly, place an apple with the bananas in a brown paper bag for approximately two days.
  • Ripe bananas can be saved for baking purposes by mashing, placing them in a plastic bag, and freezing until you are ready to use them. You can also place the whole banana in a bag and freeze it in its skin.
