Customer Reviews of Norpro Meat Pounder
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Satisified Comment: I had another meat pounder that butchered the meat. The Norpro Meat Pounder gives me even and smooth results. I am very satisfied. Customer Rating: Summary: Poorly finished Comment: Although this meat pounder has been highly rated by Cooks Illustrated I found it to be poorly finished. It is well designed, just a poor quality implimentation. Customer Rating: Summary: A Valuable Tool Comment: If you are strong in culinary skills but weak of arm, this is for you. Perfect cutlets (veal, chicken, pork) are essential for perfect dishes (scallopini, piccata, medalions), and the Norpro meat pounder will let you achieve perfection every time. Customer Rating: Summary: Best One Yet -- Better than the Rest Comment: We frequently pound chicken for our favorite recipes, which is why I was looking for the best meat pounder I could buy. My research led me to an old favorite, "Cook's Illustrated." They rated the Norpro Offset Meat Pounder the best of all the ones they tested. They liked the offset handle design, which relieved some of the tension on one's wrist. I have to concur with "Cook's Illustrated." I have less wrist strain with the offset handle. The pounder has a good heft, and makes quick work of the meat. The disk is 3 and 3/4 inches in diameter. The overall length is 11 and 1/4 inches. My kitchen (spring) scales weight the Norpro at 1 lb. 10 ozs. The chrome surface is smooth, and could not be easier to clean. One only has to look at the photo to see how easy. I almost did not buy this because of the price. However, we use our meat pounder a lot, and the Norpro Offset Pounder has been worth every penny to my wife and I. Buy the best -- scream once. Customer Rating: Summary: Strange and Awkward Design. Other designs are a lot better. Comment: This design is so strange and awkward. It's like something between the "hammer" design and the straight pounder design. I think it's very ineffective. Yes, because it has a flat "pounder", it will pound to an extent...but no where near the other two designs. Read my reviews on the other designs to formulate your own opinion, but I don't think this meat pounder was designed well at all. It would be more difficult to clean and store. It does not work well for the "down and out" motion necessary for proper meat pounding. More Reviews The offset handle on this meat pounder makes its weight easier to manage and spares your knuckles too. Recommended by the editors of "Cook's Illustrated" magazine, this is an ideal tool for flattening veal or chicken breasts. Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers Added features such as ice making and drinks dispensers can all add to the appeal of certain models. Ice making is an option on many American style fridge-freezers, sometimes available without opening the door, as are cold water dispensers. Zoned models offer several storage areas, all at different temperatures, designed to keep a variety of foods fresh for longer. Most manufacturers now offer adjustable shelf heights and storage units which simplify food storage. Choosing Appliance -> Whip / Whisk Many still consider a whip as a "gourmet" piece of kitchen equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is as essential as a kitchen stove and should be in everyone's kitchen. Nothing works better for mixing a multitude of different preparations or for making sauces or gravy. Buy a solid stainless steel whip with moderately stiff wires. Very thin wires are for mixing delicate things like egg whites or whipped cream. Very thick, solid wires are for mixing stiff dough.
