Customer Reviews of V340 PROFESSIONAL Apple Peeler
Customer Rating: Summary: A good product Comment: I've had this apple peeler-corer-slicer for over 10 years, don't even remember where we bought it. Looked it up today in order to send a link to my brother, who mentioned he was looking for a good one. We have an orchard of about 2 dozen apple trees, and we dry and freeze a lot of the fruit. Since our orchard is organic, some apples are irregularly shaped or have some scabs or worms. Regardless, for each apple, it takes me about 15 seconds to attach it to the spikes on this gadget and rotate the handle -- and I have an apple that's peeled, cored, and sliced into spiral segments about 1/8 inch thick. I then cut the spiral ring lengthwise and arrange them in the dryer. Or prepare them for freezing. Amazing how quick and easy it is. We've cored, peeled, and sliced hundreds of apples over the last decade or so, and this works much better than any product we tried before. I don't even know if they even make replacement blades for the peeler, because we haven't needed one yet. Customer Rating: Summary: VILLAWARE V340 PRO APPLE PEELER Comment: In searching the web for a quality apple peeler that would be of similar quality as my mother's antique model I helped her make mincemeat when I was a youngster, I found the V340 and then Amazon with the best deal. This product actually exceeds my expectations with its many advanced features compared to the antique version. It is plated to resist rust, the suction base is 100X better than the clamp style and the peeling blade works better than the old flat style that skips more. It makes you go on the hunt for more apples to peel! SUPERB!!!! Customer Rating: Summary: Apple corer Comment: Have only used once, so maybe I need to get more practice, but the apple core was removed before the peeler started, so I ended up peeling the apple by hand, because the remaining apple just kept turning around on the spindle. Customer Rating: Summary: A Marvel Comment: I borrowed a friend's apple peeler and was amazed when I would peel, core and slice 10 apples in 10 minutes. Shortly thereafter my husband bought me my own. This one. It's even better. The Pampered Chef brand I'd borrowed had to screw onto the counter in a very akward manner. The suction cup on this one is secure and convenient! The other one didn't adjust to not core like this one does either. I've found no reason to not like it and find it's quality to be very comparable and in some points better than the more expensive one. I am very satisfied with it. However, because all things under the sun should strive to be better, I won't give it 5 stars. Customer Rating: Summary: Junk Comment: I bought this after trying my friends apple peeler/corer. This one is junk compared to his. It makes apple sauce, not nicely peeled apples. More Reviews During the nineteenth century, American inventors came up with dozens ofdesigns for removing the skin from an apple. This device, whichnot only peels but slices and cores apples, is the direct descendant ofthose contraptions; the suction-cup base is its only modern element. Youspear the apple (or potato) on the three-tined fork and turn the crank. This spirals the fruit past a little spring-mounted blade that does thepeeling. You can also attach the corer-slicer to turn the apple into aperfect spiral with the core removed. Choosing Appliance -> Stainless steel bowls These are the best all purpose bowls for a multitude of applications. Choose a wide range of sizes (be sure to get a large bowl for whipping egg whites and whipped cream). In general, the heavier the bowl, the higher quality. Choosing Appliance -> Knives The importance of high quality knives can't be stressed enough! Buy the best you can and expect to spend some serious money. It is better to buy a couple of excellent knives and slowly add to your collection rather than buying an entire set of low quality knives. Start with a chef knife and paring knife. You will also want to buy a sharpening steel. V340 PROFESSIONAL Apple Peeler Kitchen tips -> Powdered sugar When making powdered sugar frosting, add a pinch of baking powder to make the frosting creamier and keep it from cracking |
