Customer Reviews of Old Stone Oven 4444 Pizza for Two 8 1/2 Inch Round Pizza Stones
Customer Rating: Summary: We love our pizza stones! Comment: I purchased these stones when I was trying to come up with something that my sweetie and I can make together since I'm a vegetarian and he is not. It was a great idea, we can make them together and both get exactly what we want. We have had a lot of fun perfecting our his-and-her pizza recipes from our own crispy crust recipe to our proprietary cheese blend :) I've owned Pampered Chef stones in the past and find these to be more durable and a heck of a lot cheaper. I wouldn't waste my money on Pampered Chef stones. These stones are a great value, I am very pleased. Despite the no-fatty-foods warning, we did put oil on the stones once to see how it affected the crust - it didn't smoke or smell or do any damage to the stones...it basically just soaked in. The included crust recipe is fantasic for a crusty-crust and, of course, it is the perfect size for two pizzas. With just a tiny bit of corn meal on the stones there is no sticking problem. The instructions say to assemble the pizzas and then move them to the stones, which is messy and destructive. We assemble ours on the stones. We have enjoyed our stones so much that we've given them for birthday gifts and bridal shower gifts. Seriously, can you think of a better bridal shower gift than pizza stones for two??? Customer Rating: Summary: Mini-Pizza Stones Comment: Need a smaller stone for use in convention oven? This one is almost too small. Frozen "individual" pizza just barely fits; if anything bubbles over, it literally bubbles over onto the oven floor. Otherwise, does as nice a job of cooking the pizza as the larger, standard size stone. Customer Rating: Summary: Super size for toaster ovens Comment: I wanted to use my Pampered Chef stones in my toaster oven since I don't like to heat up the big oven in the summer. These stones fit the toaster oven perfectly! You have to sand them down when they arrive as the edges are rough, but it's not too much trouble and they now work perfectly! Customer Rating: Summary: Great Pizza Stones Comment: Have had no problem with these pizza stones. Have used them on a big green egg charcoal cooker for several years now for all kinds of things. Not as fragile as pampered chef. Yes they stain. Yes, after one use they will not look new. But they cook evenly and do exactly what they are supposed to. Have no chips, breaks, or fractures. Good stuff. Customer Rating: Summary: smoke & bad oders Comment: I bought this set around 1 year ago. I have not used it very much due to the limited kinds of foods you can bake on it. It works pretty good for pizza. The product description says not to bake high-fat foods on it because it will smoke & give off bad oders, so I've only baked pizza on it & reheated non-greasy foods. Evidentally over time it has absorbed something because the last time I used it, it smoked & gave off really bad oders. I had to air out my whole house. I'll probably just throw it away & continue to use my Pampered Chef stoneware that you can bake ANYTHING on. The only reason I bought this is because P.Chef doesn't have any stoneware in this size. More Reviews Professional pizza and traditional European bread ovens are often lined with stone or brick. This is so heat is stored up and redistributed evenly. The resulting blast of heat from the Old Stone Oven Pizza for Two baking stones gives bread and pizza a nice chewy crust. The rustic French tarts called galettes are also well suited to a baking stone. To use the stone, place it in a cold oven and preheat to 500 degrees for pizza, or according to the recipe for bread or galettes. The stone is made of the same material that lines blast furnaces and kilns, so it can handle ultra-high temperatures. Wait until the baking stones are entirely cooled before attempting to clean them. Let them dry completely before using again. Some discoloration will occur over time; this is natural and will not affect baking. Using baking parchment may help delay that discoloration. Do not bake cookies, turnovers or other high-fat items on the stones; the stone would absorb the fat and proceed to produce smoke and bad odors. The stones come with a flyer that contains detailed use and cleaning instructions, as well as recipes for bread, pizza dough, and two pizza toppings. --Garland Withers Choosing Appliance -> Servicing Your Appliance Buying this "service deal" can be expensive but if you feel happier knowing that you are protected from breakdown for a few years, shop around insurance brokers to see how prices compare. Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean.
