Customer Reviews of Hoover Fold Away Bagless Upright Vacuum with Fold Down Handle
Customer Rating: Summary: I love it!! Comment: I have owned one of these for about 6 years. I have two dogs, carpeting and wood floors. I have never had the problems that others are complaining about. The instructions tell you to empty the dirt cup, filter cup and to tap out the filter after EVERY USE! The only problem I had was the height adjuster broke after I dropped it down the cellar stairs. But I was able to get a replacement part for around $10.00. I highly recommend this vacuum. Customer Rating: Summary: Not as bad as all that. Comment: I have to admit I'm a little embarrassed to be sitting here writing a review on a vacuum cleaner. But I've happily owned this vacuum for a couple of years, at least, and have to stand up for it. Here's the thing. All bag-less vacs with filters will require emptying and cleaning. You can spend $69 or $690 - they all need to be emptied and cleaned- and fairly frequently. I have 3 dogs and 4 cats, and live on a farm with chickens, turkeys, and horses. I vacuum our room sized area rugs twice a week. I have to empty the container on this vacuum at least once or twice each time I vacuum. I don't see this as a negative- I see it as my vacuum doing it's job, picking up a lot of pet hair, dander, and crud. That's what it's supposed to do. I can't understand why someone would fault a vacuum b/c they have to empty it often. The HEPA filter does need to be banged out once everytime I vacuum. But, again, it just proves to me the suction is excellant on this machine. For it to be picking up microscopic particles in such volume- and after so much heavy use- proves to me what an excellant job it's doing. I'd love it if there was a way to clean the filter without having to expose myself to the dust, but as far as I can see no vacuum company has designed such a thing. I have allergies to dust and pet dander. With our old vacuum, I sneezed and snuffled from the second I turned the thing on. But the only time I sneeze with this one is when I have to bang out the filter outside. This tells me our Hoover is truly sucking up the dust in the house, which is the important thing. Knocking on wood, here, but I've never had to replace a belt or part or had any other weird, unexpected mechanical problem. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is b/c it does have a few minor design flaws. It is loud and kicks off some heat after about 15 minutes. It will heat up a room in no time on a warm day. The hose slips off often. This was a real annoyance, but I try not to sweat the small stuff in life. I simply wrapped the mounting with a piece of masking tape and that creates enough friction to keep the hose snuggly in place. I use the hose attachments often on my old hardwood floors and the tape has worked just fine, despite my undoing and replacing the hose frequently. The hose WILL clog if you try to push the dirt cup to beyond maximum capacity. This requires rummaging around the house looking for a screw driver, undoing about 6 screws on the back of the machine to remove the hose, and spending about 5 minutes with a coat hanger digging compacting crud out of the hose and then remounting it. A couple experiences with this taught me to not push my luck with the dirt cup and to just buckle down and empty the darn thing it when it's full. If you're on a budget and really can't afford one of those $350 vacuums but are considering getting out the credit card to buy one anyway - my advice is don't. Just get this Hoover Fold Away. In my estimation, no vacuum is 100% perfect, they all have their quirks and faults, and as for cleaning power, this one's easily as good. Customer Rating: Summary: Do not buy this vacuum! ! ! Comment: I've had this vacuum for just over a year now. Twice within the first 6 months the belt broke, and fortunately it was fixed under warranty. Now, the hose completely detached from the unit, and I think I've discovered a way to screw it back on (I hope it stays on). I never liked this vacuum from the beginning. I have to empty the dirt cup after vacuuming only ONE room! Otherwise, the vacuum loses suction. That's ridiculous. Plus you have to shake out the filter too, because it gets clogged with the finer particles. To get all the finer particles out of the filter, I actually have to knock the filter against a wall outside. So, winter, summer, rain, snow, whatever the weather, unless you want to make a mess inside your home, you have to go outside to clean out the filter and empty the dirt cup. And that's not a great process for anybody with a dust allergy. I should have listened to the warnings online. I bought it anyway because it was such a good price. It DEFINITELY was not worth it. And I've learned my lesson the hard way. I will not buy a Hoover product again. Customer Rating: Summary: Do not purchase, keep shopping... Comment: I bought this vacuum almost 2 years ago, when we moved into a new house. It seemed to work great and did, at first. I borrowed my in-laws vacuum to see how theirs did and was disgusted by what my vacuum had left behind. Do not purchase, keep shopping... the investment hardly pays for its-self. If I could afford it, I would purchase a kurby. Customer Rating: Summary: This is a Very Good Vacuum, does the job well..... Comment: I must admit that I am in the minority when I say I found this vacuum to be MUCH more than I expected......Our old Hoover (15 Years Old) was not doing the job anymore, it just was not getting up the dirt......We purchased this unit and was amazed at how good it got up the packed in dust and dirt particles that ones feet pack into the bottom of the carpet.....As for the emptying of the bagless cannister and cleaning the filter....THIS IS HOW YOU TELL IF YOUR VACUUM IS REALLY CLEANING UP.....Its no trouble at all to empty the bagless canister, its rather pleasant to see all that dust and grimes, so you know that the unit is picking it up.....My old vac had the Type A bags and they were a real pain (but not unbearable) to change....I am not sure why some people would find it HARD to empty out a plastic container.....And I have not had the hose come loose yet, so maybe ours is just a good one, who knows but I give this vacuum 5 stars...... Go to a restaurant supply store and buy a large roll of restaurant plastic wrap. It sticks much better than the common grocery store plastic wrap and is much cheaper per foot. Choosing Appliance -> Grater In our opinion, the old fashioned box graters work the best since they are sturdy and offer several different grating sizes.
