Customer Reviews of Circulon Splatter Shield
Customer Rating: Summary: Solid Spatter Shield Comment: This is - like most of the Oxo line - well designed and effective. I have one, and I have another which is the most recent recommendation by Cook's Illustrated: a fine screen model which seems to catch less spatter than the Oxo. Because I was not satisfied with their spatter capturing I have designed my own shield and will market it sometime in 2008. I think it will merit a 5-star rating. As an aside - I return products that I think are not good. How else will a manufacturer find out about the product's faults? Returns are valuable feedback. I rarely return goods but when I do I always tell them what I didn't like, what the problem was. The better companies are grateful. Customer Rating: Summary: Utterly useless? I think not. Comment: The first review gave me pause but I bought it anyway having never bought a Circulon I didn't like. This works very well to keep sauce from spattering out the sides. I still use a screen on top for the real spattery stuff but for the most part, thisw handles everything else AND allows you access to stir and season without removing a top. Customer Rating: Summary: Love it.....Keeps most of the grease away from the stove top Comment: I just got this splatter shield last week and have used it everyday so far. It works great to keep the grease away from the stovetop. Like the previous review, the big "Pops" escape, so you may want to use the splatter screen too. Previously, when I used a screen, the food loses it crispyness...I mean that's why you would stirfry and fry for. This splatter shield allows the condensation to escape and you can keep a closer eye on your food and turn and stir as needed without moving the shield. Great invention...now I need a bigger on for my wok!!! Customer Rating: Summary: Works great! Comment: We're glad we didn't see the 1-star review, because we wouldn't have bought this, but we did buy one and it works great. It keeps most of the splatter -- including from bacon -- in the pan, keeping the oven probably at least 90% cleaner than usual, and it works better than a splatter screen. (Only the really big pops under high heat sent any grease out of the pan.) We're very happy with this device. Customer Rating: Summary: waste of money Comment: For $20 I don't even bother to return things, but this article is a disgrace, almost completely useless. Save your money. More Reviews Place this shield over your frying pan, and the grease from your fried chicken, potatoes or bacon won't splatter all over your stovetop. Unlike other shields that sit flat on top (and have to be lifted-up for turning food), this one fits on top of your pan like a lid, and has a curved side that keeps splatters contained. Fits any 12-in. Circulon saute pan, skillet, round grill pan and griddle. Has a riveted, stay-cool handle. Dishwasher-safe. Choosing Appliance -> Spoons Buy stainless spoons (both slotted and non-slotted) which are solid and won't bend no matter how tough the job. Also, buy several high quality wooden spoons for stirring delicate dishes like risotto (the sharp edge of a metal spoon would cut or bruise the rice). Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean. Circulon Splatter Shield Kitchen tips -> Potatoes Potatoes will cook faster if they are soaked in salty water before they are baked |
