Customer Reviews of Presto 02703 Electric Tea Kettle

Summary: Simple, inexpensive, works great
Comment: We've had our Presto Model 0270303 electric tea pot for years. No problems. It really does heat a quart of water faster than a micorwave. In fact, it heats faster than on the stove. The short cord is a satety feature, and not a complaint for me. The lack of a shut off switch is a positive to me as switches are usually the first part to fail on an electrical appliance (note, as the cord IS the shut off switch, it will spark at the recepaicle when unplugged). It does have a metal bottom, but we set our kettle on a trivet, and have had no rust problems. My only complaint is that the whistle could be louder, but that is minor in comparison to my first of this type of tea kettle which had no whistle at all (or auto shut off that I knew of).

I did leave it plugged in after pouring out the water, and thus it boiled dry once. When it did that, it made popping noises, and that alerted me to my error. I unplugged it immediately, let it cool down, and heated another pot of water as a test. It worked as before. I can't be sure the auto shut off worked, and I wonder what would have happened if I had left it plugged in and walked away. Don't know.

I wouldn't trade our kettle for one with a switch, but I would be tempted if I could get one with a temperature control.

Summary: My tea kettle
Comment: I love this item. It is very convenient and boils water in the blink of an eye. I am used to drink tea during my work day, so it is so fast that I can prepare my beverage every time I want it. It is beautiful, unexpensive, and I think I bought a nice device. The shippment was unexpectedly fast, the conditions were excellent. Everything was beyond expectations.

Summary: more or less junk
Comment: I feel like a company that doesn't put an on/off switch on an electric appliance with heating elements might have some issues. It's also not the most ergonomic configuration-- it's very easy to spill water when it's full, and the only place you can fill it is through the spout... hm. I guess it makes tea, though. Probably not worth what I paid for it.

Summary: Great Item
Comment: This is the second one I have had. The first one was getting kind of dingy looking (taking it to work break room), still works great. I bought 2 since my daughter (who also loves it) was getting married and moving out and she needed one. They are so handy for heating water for recipes, tea, hot cocoa, soups, etc. WE LOVE IT!

Customer Rating: Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5Rating: 3/5
Summary: Presto Kettle
Comment: I ordered this to replace a whistling West Bend electric kettle. (you can't find the ones that whistle in the U.) It does it's job but the capacity is less than the West Bend, it's slower to heat and the whistle is weak. For the price I would go with the West Bend.

Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens
Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.
Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens
Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean.

Kitchen tips -> Mixing batter
When mixing batter for pancakes, muffins or cupcakes, mix the batter in a large liquid measuring cup with a spout. This will make it easier to pour the batter into muffin tins or pancake batter onto a hot griddle.
