Customer Reviews of Stone (Granite) Mortar and Pestle
Customer Rating: Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5Rating: 4/5
Summary: easy to use
Comment: I used it to make the best guacamole. Grinding the serrano peppers and cilantro releases more of their essential oils, creating a wonderful flavor. It's so easy to use, I find myself using it instead of the coffee grinder or food processor to grind spices and nuts. It looks nice sitting out on the kitchen counter - which makes it even handier to use.

Summary: Great for Curry Paste
Comment: I bought this specifically to make my own curries. It is just
outstanding. I live on the East Coast; ordered on a Monday
and they priority shipped it. I had it by the end of the week.
I am very happy with this purchase.

Summary: Practical work of art
Comment: Purchased this item because I have dried herbs to process from my garden. This was the largest I could find. The weight was at first disconcerting, but has turned out to be one of best features. Placed on a nonskid pad, it is immovable during use. The bowl size makes for quick processing of dried basil, savory, oregano, etc. The unexpected value is as an art object. The subtle green/grey is beautiful. It has also become a conversation piece. Love it!

Summary: Great buy! Wonderful on countertop! Useful!
Comment: Recommended by Dorie Greenspan (see her excellent blog). Maybe I should've bought the larger 3+ cup capacity one. Super fast shipping. Solid (and heavy) item.

Choosing Appliance -> Baking sheete
Not too much romance here, but essential for any functional kitchen. Buy the heaviest pans possible. Also, you should consider buying a non-stick silicon sheet: they make baking very easy!
Choosing Appliance -> Whip / Whisk
Many still consider a whip as a "gourmet" piece of kitchen equipment. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is as essential as a kitchen stove and should be in everyone's kitchen. Nothing works better for mixing a multitude of different preparations or for making sauces or gravy. Buy a solid stainless steel whip with moderately stiff wires. Very thin wires are for mixing delicate things like egg whites or whipped cream. Very thick, solid wires are for mixing stiff dough.
