Customer Rating:   Summary: Almost perfect! Comment: This lid is great. I live in germany, and bought mine several years before it was available in the States. It is easy to use and works better than anything other lid out there. The problems come later. The handle is held on be only one screw. it is designed to spin as the user needs it to, but the screw becomes loose and the hande then spins to fast and to often, causing the lid to become unstable and unpredictable. Also, the non-stick coating doesn't stay on very long. Between the hot oil and the dishwasher, this thing started rusting after about 6 months of use. So while I love useing the handle, and nothing I've ever seen works better, it does not hold up like other Silit products I own have. I still recomend other Silit products, but not this one. Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers By law manufacturers must disclose the energy efficiency of their appliances, rated A to G. These are usually displayed prominently in showrooms. Useful info -> Dishwashers Energy efficiency is of paramount importance, not only to save money on electricity bills but also to help reduce power station emissions that contribute to global warming. Look for brands with low energy consumption (energy efficiency ratings will be displayed in the showroom). Levels are now as low as 1.3kW/hr on some slimline models largely because of reduced water consumption. A delay timer can help take advantage of cheap overnight electricity. |
