Customer Reviews of Pizza Peel 19-1/2'' Handle, 16'' x 18'' Blade

Summary: I like it
Comment: It makes Pizza on the grill a whole lot easier. I haven't had any problems with it. The one thing I didn't like (which is mostly my own fault), was it was bigger then I expected and took up more then half my grill... which makes it a little tricky to flip when I have two pizzas on the grill. So if you're using it for a grill, unless you have a monster size grill, you might see if there is a smaller version; or measure before hand unlike me. But it is a huge step up over what I had before.

Summary: great product for the $
Comment: I got this pizza peel for my husband who bakes homemade pizzas weekly. He really loves it! I agree with the other reviewer that some metal edges should be filed down and the handle could be sanded, but not a problem for the low price. It is quite sturdy. He bakes his crusts on parchment paper so sticking is not a problem and cleanup is easy. Aluminum is definitely superior to a wood pizza peel as it is thinner and easier to manipulate under the crust and also can be used on the grill. The packaging wasn't great but it arrived unscathed and quickly.

Summary: Pizza Peel
Comment: The pizza peel arrived promptly and was well packaged. (Although it was a Christmas gift and the package was clearly marked on the OUTSIDE revealing the contents a little too early!) It is a great item and we would buy it again. Highly recommended!

Summary: Great Size --- Sharp Edges
Comment: The size is great! It coordinates well with my commercial restaurant baking stone.

The edges of the peel were not smooth though. In fact, they were dangerously sharp in random areas and I was afraid to use it prior to filing down these raised sharp areas. We used a metal file to round the steel edges in an attempt to avoid nasty cuts and guarantee safe use. The manufacture should have done this for their customer. We also sanded the rough handle so it would be smooth and free of splinters and offer a nicer hand.

Great peel if you do not mind doing your own "customizing" to suit your quality/safety preferences.

NOTE: For a superior, yet unassuming pizza book, I love: Pizza --- The recipes are international. Traveling from Palermo to Chicago, from Naples to Brooklyn, the Scicolones have gathered recipes for such classics as Pizza Margherita, Spicy Pizza Marinara; new Italian favorites including Eggplant Parmesan Pizza and Pizza with Prosciutto and Arugula; and American pies such as Garlic and Cheese Pizza. The recipes are superior and more authentic than, "American Pie: My Search for the Perfect Pizza." (I do not recommend the later to purists)

Artisan bread bakers will simply LOVE the results of their pizza crust made from Bread: A Baker's Book of Techniques and Recipes recipe for "6-Fold" French baguettes. It is a delightfully fun recipe as well delicious.

Bel Aria Italian "00" flour is reasonably easy to find. It yields a superior pizza result to most commonly available flours. Lastly, dust the peel with copious amounts of Bob's Red Hill Semolina (the yellow stuff many misconstrue as corn meal.) It is essential to prevent the pie from sticking, on your peel with out fats/grease that will make your crust tough. Since semolina is durum wheat flour, it will not taint your efforts with the off-flavors of corn meal.

Buon Appetito!

Summary: Very nice quality, perfect size.
Comment: We needed a larger peel to allow us to make larger pizzas, and this one fits the bill perfectly. Nice handle, well constructed.

Choosing Appliance -> Dishwasher
Choose a dishwasher with sturdy compression springs in the door. Also look for tough, lightweight nylon or graphite racks with cushioned tips that protect glassware and cookware. Weimer recommends choosing a model with a rack design that provides the largest, most flexible interior space and is configured for your belongings, including odd-shaped pieces.
Choosing Appliance -> Fridge / Freezers
By law manufacturers must disclose the energy efficiency of their appliances, rated A to G. These are usually displayed prominently in showrooms. The better the rating, the more energy efficient the appliance is - good for both the environment and your pocket.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Hob and grill cooking
Modern appliances reach higher temperatures quicker - and often hold heat longer. To avoid worktop damage, follow both the appliance manufacturers instructions and these rules:
  • Always use the correct size of pan for the burner, placed centrally. An overhanging pan can scorch surrounding surfaces. Don't use two burners as one (e.g. for a large griddle) - it has the same effect.
  • To reduce heat, turn the burner down instead of pulling the utensil partially off the heat source.
