It's a great machine, arrived in "new" condition, and works like a charm. The lady loves the self-propel. I love it because it does the best job of any vacuum I've ever used. It is bulky so it is not ideal for carrying around stairs. It is also noisy and when its running its hard to hear the telephone/door bell ring. Comment: My last vacuum was a Dirt Devil and the suction was so strong that it was extremely difficult to push and pull. So, only after 1 year, I purchased this vacuum. It works great. Easy to push and pull, easy to change the bag, and it cleans wondrefully. I've had it about 1 month now, and really like it. I disagree with the other writers that this vacuum is loud -- it sounds like a vacuum to me. And it does not hurt my feelings to save almost $200 between new and refurbished. It works great, easy to use and the whole self propelling thing is a definite plus. Makes it a lot easier to push the thing around. Choosing Appliance -> Shopping Washer When shopping for a new washer, look for a front loading (horizontal-axis) machine. This machine may cost more to buy but uses about a third of the energy and less water than a top-loading machine. With a front loader, you'll also save more on clothes drying, because they remove more water from your clothes during the spin cycle. Look for the Energy Star label. Choosing Appliance -> Convection Ovens Convection ovens allow you to bake more foods (cookies, muffins, etc.) at once with even browning, but without the need to shift and rotate pans. A convection oven is the same as a conventional oven except a fan is installed in the back interior of the oven. The fan is used to blow and force the heat to circulate in the oven and around the food, thus eliminating the need to rotate and shift pans. In reality, though, even with the most expensive convection ovens, you will still need to rotate your foods, because there will always exist still hot spots in the cavity, because the cavity is small. Don't compare home convection ovens with most commercial convection ovens used by bakers and small food manufacturers, because their commercial ovens are much larger than home ovens and commercial ovens don't have any hot spots and therefore, there's no need to shift and rotate pans.
