Customer Reviews of Proctor Silex K2070 1-Quart Automatic Electric Kettle, White
Customer Rating: Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5Rating: 1/5
Summary: This is okay if you don't mind your water tasting like plastic
Comment: This mini kettle makes your water taste like plastic. I'm not sure how the others have managed to drink from it. I've tried boiling it out a number of times, but the strong plastic scent and taste remain. That can't be good for you. Also, the cord is extremely short so expect you will need an extension unless you put it right next to the plug. Unfortunately, I will be returning this.

Summary: Great for the Price
Comment: I bought this about two years ago when I went off to college, and it still works perfectly. It's one of my favorite things I've bought for college. I use it to heat water for tea, instant oatmeal and other foods, to heat bowls of water to defrost my minifridge, and for anything else I need hot water. I hate making tea in the microwave, and this is perfect for it.

It doesn't take very long at all to reach a boil, even if filled to the maximum. The things I liked about this kettle was its price, its size, and its automatic shut-off. I particularly like the automatic shut-off because then I can just put water in and turn it on without having to worry about it breaking or causing a fire if I leave the room before it boils and forget about it (which I do a lot) because it shuts off automatically when it boils.

Summary: Pretty good, but more expensive might be a better value
Comment: I've had a braun electric water kettle for years, have used it daily for tea, and I've always loved it, but when I needed another one for my office, I thought I'd get something cheaper, and the reviews here are so good.

So I got the K2070. First of all, it does boil water.

I'm sure after a few months (I've only had it a month) the toxic plastic smell in the water will dissipate. Eventually I'll learn to not let my hand slide too high on the handle so it doesn't (repeatedly) get burned by venting steam. And I'll realize that setting the boiler down on the floor because it only has a four foot cord is fine. I'll get used to waiting a while for a single cup of water to boil. And the scaling, I know it's usual.

If I had to chose again, though, I would spend the extra 25 on another Braun because it's perfect. totally perfect.

Summary: Very good product, excelent price
Comment: For the price, it does not get much better than this electric kettle. It is a nice size, not too large or small. The automatic shut-off is very nice. Over-all a competent, well-priced machine.

Initially the product does have a fairly strong plastic smell, but it wears off after using it a few times.

Summary: works but...
Comment: This product works fine. Heats water rapidly and is very easy to use. My only problem is the possiblity of toxins given off in the water that is heated in it. For this reason I limit the use of it with my daughters.

More Reviews Housed in a smooth, modern-looking design, this 1000-watt electric kettle rapidly boils up to 1 quart of water for coffee, tea, instant soups, and more. The unit features a detachable cord and a nonspill spout for graceful serving, plus a generous handle with a secure grip. Its immersed heating element provides a rapid and quiet heating process, making it ideal for the office, home, or college dorm. Dual water-level indicators allow for convenient filling, and the unit's easy-open lid is designed with a security lock to prevent spilling. And there's no need to worry about leaving it on, the kettle automatically shuts off when the water boils, and its boil-dry protection keeps the unit from boiling when there's no water left

Choosing Appliance -> Sinks
Consider which accessories might be beneficial. Many models can be supplied with a draining basket, chopping board and strainer bowls. A drainer extension can be useful for sinks without a drainer where worktop space is limited in a small kitchen.

Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Heat
Rather than cause accidental heat-damage, prevent such damage in the first place:
  • Always use a heat protection pad or trivet (with rubber feet) for hot cookware, or leave cookware to cool on the hob first. Never put hot pans, particularly cast iron. Such heat can damage any surface!
  • If you must put a hot pan on the base of a sink use a protective sink mat, sponge, or cloth beneath. It is best to leave the utensil to cool slightly first, or put a few inches of cool water in the sink before the pan.
  • Avoid pouring boiling liquids directly into sinks without turning on the cold tap as well.
