Customer Reviews of Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 5-Quart Chicken Fryer with Iron Cover
Customer Rating: Summary: It stuck...ow big time! Comment: Ok, I received this product quickly. It's big and heavy, it looks wonderful. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or what but first thing I did was fry potatoes. OMG They stuck everywhere. Ok, I soaked it in water and dried it out then greased. Preheated and tried eggs. LOL poor eggs! We ate them anyways. I have had cast iron before. So, Off to the store I went. I bought bacon. Preheated and fried 2 pounds of bacon. Hey we needed to eat anyways and I wanted this grease. You could also use lard. But lard is not so tasty. Ok preheated over to 300 degrees; left some bacon grease in it and made sure it covered the entire inside. After 15 minutes, I took from oven and poured out excess grease. Back to the oven it went for 2 hours to be seasoned. Ha, I did this 3 times. Fried potatoes tonight didn't begin to stick! I love the skillet. If you happen to get unlucky enough to get one that is not quite seasoned, don't despair. Remember, sooner or later you will have to reseason anyways. It's quite possible I didn't let it preheat right and messed it up. I'm using a new gas stove after 20 years of electric. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because I really don't feel I messed it up. Customer Rating: Summary: One of the most versatile items in my kitchen Comment: Having been a fan of Griswold for years I was skeptical of a different brand. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and the balance of this item (cast iron is heavy and if the manufacturer has not created the correct balance in the product, it can be very difficult to lift [This is what makes Griswold worth the money]). I love this fryer. It is excellent for the stated frying, but it has so many other uses. On hot days I use it to bake biscuits, or cook a whole chicken so I don't need heat up the house. It is much more energy efficient than a countertop oven or a conventional oven with excellent results. My only disappointment with this product is that it doesn't come in a larger size. Customer Rating: Summary: Never got the item. Comment: Consumer beware, I never receive this item. I notified Amazon twice with no help. I was charged for the item USPS states that they delivered the item, but I don't have it. Amazon is just ignoring my requests to rectify the situation. Customer Rating: Summary: This is Our Fryer of Choice Comment: We don't have an electric fryer of any kind. We use the 5 quart Lodge chicken fryer. I can't stand the smell of frying in my house so we use the burner on our grill outside and this works perfect. This fryer is extremely heavy. It is more shallow than a dutch oven. We have the 5 quart dutch oven also and the fryer seems like it is a thicker cast, probably to support the high temperatures of frying. You can really tell when you pick the pot up that it has some weight to it. Everything we have cooked comes out perfect. The size of the pan is great for deep frying so you don't have to waste alot of oil. We have deep fried fish, french fries, onion rings, green tomatoes. And best of all, when you are done, it cleans up easily. Customer Rating: Summary: makes the BEST chicken! Comment: My mom and grandma have used Lodge cast iron cookware forever. My grandma would fry her southern fried chicken in this chicken fryer and I remember the smell & the taste of the chicken! I know part of it was her recipe but the other part she swore was the cast iron. I now use this fryer as well as several other pieces of Lodge and I love them all! They are heavy duty, cooks wonderfully and cleans up in a snap! A little hot water, stiff brush and season it and you have a piece of cookware to literally last you a lifetime. My grandma had Lodge pieces from the 1930's! So you know this is a great quality line of cookware! More Reviews This Lodge chicken fryer is an essential Must-Have for the perfect fried chicken! This is the larger of the Chicken Fryers made by Lodge, and measures 12 inches in diameter with 3. 25 inches of depth. 5 qt. Capacity. Now with new assist handle. Pre-seasoned and ready to use! For more than 100 years, Lodge has been perfecting the process of making cast iron cookware. Choosing Appliance -> Built-in Ovens Ease of cleaning is well worth considering at the outset. Stay clean liners resist dirt build-up but pyrolitic cleaning is the ultimate. It burns off all baked-on debris at 500°C so that all you have to do is sweep out the resulting ash. Look out for ovens with a steam cleaning facility, too, and remember that some ovens have removable inner doors that are easy to clean. Choosing Appliance -> Baking sheete Not too much romance here, but essential for any functional kitchen. Buy the heaviest pans possible. Also, you should consider buying a non-stick silicon sheet: they make baking very easy! Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 5-Quart Chicken Fryer with Iron Cover Kitchen tips -> Eggs Be sure eggs are fresh and cold when you have to separate the whites from the yolks. |
