Customer Reviews of Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 10-Quart Deep Camp Dutch Oven with Iron Lid
Customer Rating: Summary: Bachelor and Outdoorsman #1 Utensil Comment: I have really enjoyed this 4-qt #10 Dutch Oven!! It is the perfect size for one person's cooking. I cook everything with it. Stews, Soups, Whole Chickens and Roasts, even breakfasts and desserts!! The lid, when inverted on a couple of bricks, cooks up perfect eggs!! I take my Dutch Oven with me wherever I go. I just pack it up in an optional tote bag, throw it in the back of the Tahoe, along with charcoal and starting equipment, and then cook at the park, at work, at a friend's house, wherever!! I enjoy watching most people look at this "strange" contraption and setup and then letting them take a whiff as I stir the food around. They are always hungrier than I am!! It drives a campground pure CRAZY!! I have other size Lodge Duth Ovens, but I HIGHLY recommend this one for personal all around cooking!! Customer Rating: Summary: What a product! Comment: Boyfriend loves it. I love the peach cobler he made in it! I had heard that this is the best brand for dutch ovens and it is great. The pre-season feature was wonderful. Customer Rating: Summary: Love it Comment: Although I have a cast iron skillet from another manufacturer that is used primarily for cornbread, this was my first piece of Lodge cookware. I absolutely love this piece. At 28 lbs., it's a little big and heavy for frequent dishes that can be made in a smaller DO for just our family. However, until our 12" comes in, I've learned to modify the coal arrangement to use the 14" deep for breakfast casseroles, home made pizza, cobblers, chicken & dumplings, etc... The size makes it excellent for doing racks of ribs and whole chickens. I'm looking forward to winter camp cooking when it will be filled with chili and stews. Based on our experience with this one piece of cookware, we ordered a 12" for the camper and I just ordered 3 skillets for the house. I'm throwing out all of my "nonstick" skillets and replacing them with Lodge cast iron. Clean-up is a breeze. Even cheesey home-made pizza wipes out with just a paper towel. The pre-seasoning is an added bonus. Years ago, my parents insisted that I have at least one piece of cast iron cookware. I can't believe I waited 16 years to purchase more! Customer Rating: Summary: Okay, now I'm a believer! Comment: There is an ongoing and eternal debate among dutch oven users as to what is the best brand available. For years I have held that Lodge was the best but the difference in quality wasn't worth the difference in price. Of course at that time I didn't even own a Lodge. Well I heard about this one an sale and had been wanting a 14" deep so I ordered it (the free shipping didn't hurt, either). It arrived within two weeks, was already seasoned from the factory (seasoning is a pain, but very necessary), and when I started using it I found out why so many people will only buy Lodge ovens. It really DOES cook better! I highly recomend this oven for anyone who needs a large D.O. Seriously. More Reviews This is a dutch oven cast iron pot that does it all outdoors! Flanged lid for hot coals inverts for use as griddle. Integral legs on oven for campfire and fireplace cooking. This Lodge camp pot and dutch oven measures 14 inches in diameter, with a depth of 5 inches. 10 qt. Capacity. Pre-seasoned and ready to use! For more than 100 years, Lodge has been perfecting the process of making cast iron cookware. Choosing Appliance -> Cutting boards There seems to be little difference between hard wood and plastic cutting boards from a safety standpoint, as long as they are properly washed and sanitized after each use. Personally, I like the feel of solid wood. One piece of advice--buy large cutting boards. Don't bother with these tiny boards that everyone seems to have in his or her kitchen. They are not user friendly. Once you get down to serious cutting or chopping, the small boards are always woefully inadequate and downright maddening! Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 10-Quart Deep Camp Dutch Oven with Iron Lid Tips How to Maintain Appliance -> Maintain Electrical Safely The insulation on electrical cords can become damaged by wear, flexing, or age. Do not use any cord that is stiff or cracked. Some clues that you may have an electrical problem are:
