Customer Reviews of KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner, Black
Customer Rating: Summary: overpriced and now broken Comment: Was okay at first, but the center spinning mechanism that locks down for storage does not lock down anymore. Also, when storing it in the fridge, there is a rubber piece to cover the center hole, but the sides still are not a good seal where the water is poured from when the lid is on. So the salad still does not last, and I cannot store it in this container. I spent a lot of money, and now am buying a new one. dont buy this one, its garbage. Not something I expected from KitchenAid. Customer Rating: Summary: Salad spinner Comment: I really thought I'd like this product but now having it I'm still using my old spinner that is a crank model. This spinner has a smaller soaking bowl and the whole unit cannot go into the dish washer. It is an attractive bowl to make and take a layered salad in. Customer Rating: Summary: Kitchenaid Salad Spinner Comment: This was a gift so I can't really rate it except to say that the person receiving it was excited. Customer Rating: Summary: Better Than My last One But the Oxos Looks Better Designed Comment: I've used this (Chinese made) salad spinner for over two months. Pros: Okay, it's better than my previous Italian made spinner with the crank. Even though that one has a larger capacity than this KitchenAid, it was prone to getting unbalanced which the KitchenAid has yet to do. The dividers work for helping to spin dry herbs like cilantro, even when I just place it in one of the three divided compartments. No unbalance. Cons: Unlike my old one and the Oxo, the design of the KitchenAid does not allow me to easily wash or rinse items using the drying basket insert: the plunger in the center easily takes in water which I'd prefer not to get water inside. I was able to remove the plunger assembly although it did take some effort to remove it the first time. While I can live with accidentally locking the plunger while spinning the basket, it's annoying that the base of the bowl has a plastic ring with holes. I'm guessing the holes create a semi-seal to help hold the bowl in place during spinning. The down side is that water enters these holes during washing and the bowl must air dry overnight preventing me from just wiping it down and storing it away immediately. I've noticed that the Oxo salad spinners are also available with a stainless bowl as well as the spinner assembly can be taken apart for cleaning. I'll probably be my next spinner. More Reviews Choosing Appliance -> Cooking Pans This is another area where spending money is justified. The best pans combine different metals like aluminum or copper on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. Aluminum and copper are valued for their ability to spread heat evenly over the entire pan, and stainless steel is valued for its non-reactive qualities. Buy pans which are heavy and thick with solid handles that are well fastened to the pot. As with knives, buy the highest quality cooking pans you can afford one at a time, starting with a saute pan and a 3 qt. sauce pan. They will last forever. At some point, a stock pot (which will be especially pricey) should be considered for serious cooking. Choosing Appliance -> Taps Dual-flow mixers provide independent hot, cold or mixed water after leaving the end of the spout. They can be deck-mounted on the sink or pillar/bridge-mounted for a more traditional look. Alternatively, choose a monobloc tap, which is a single-hole fitting that usually has two handles for hot and cold water supply. KitchenAid Professional Salad Spinner, Black Kitchen tips -> Onion To produce good tasting, crisp onions, slice or chop onions and place them in a bowl. Cover the onions with water and then add some ice to the water. Let the onions soak for 15 minutes to an hour and then drain before serving |
